That is great to hear that not all general practitioners are frauds Tamukha, it is very easy to lose faith in western doctors.

I can't understand if its because of a lack of proper knowledge because i have came across numerous physicians that didn't even know what DHEA was or the adrenal glands. How can you not have learned about one of the most basic glands in the body, these people fully well understand anxiety, adrenaline, the fight and flight response but have never heard of the adrenal glands which produce these hormones.

Crazy and worrying stuff, people view doctors as superheroes when the majority are nothing more than licensed drug dealing puppets playing with your health for the greater profit of the big pharmaceutical companies.

flipperjan,

Interestingly, in yesterday's online Guardian, the front page yelled, "Statins could benefit health of millions." The accompanying article informed us that the NHS is considering revising its availability of statins to people that aren't presently heart patients but are in risk groups, because it is believed it can help prevent their developing heart problems due to cholesterol blockages. This genius move is appraently based on an article in The Lancet.

Reading your linked news today creates quite the mental disjunct: Your news is from the the present day, literally, but the information at yesterday's Guardian appears to have arrived there by Concorde jet from 1983. My doctor never checks cholesterol without running a full inflammatory marker panel, and frequently opts for just the latter with his patients. He states simply that unless the panel show inflammation, the cholesterol count doesn't indicate anything.

How is it that some clinicians "got the memo" and some didn't? It's baffling!

Big industries thrive off of the low fat cultures as does the pharmaceutical businesses with there overprescribing of statins and other similar classes of drugs.
handful raspberries (previously frozen)
half hass avocado
spoonful raw cacoa powder
water to blend

Lugols is a solid iodine supplement but it is no cure all like it is made out to be on the iodine sites, these sites would have you believe replacing iodine was the cure for everything.

Can be helpful though especially on a raw vegan diet which is often low or sometimes even deficient in iodine if produce was grown in poor soil.

Yes this is very true infact statins can actually increase risk of heart failure.

Cholesterol and saturated fat get a bad rep from the low fat industry, cholesterol is actually one of the healing agents the body releases in response to inflammation which is the real cause of heart disease as the article states.

Hmmm, ok thx RawPlease for adding to what I know. Here in Oz, the zoo's actually do try to protect havitat as well as increasing the population and then they return the animal to the protected area, which is usually a national park that's protected. But of course a zoo is a business, and all of what you have stated is true to some extent or to a large extent depending on which zoo it is. It's very unfortunant that it goes on, but I'm seeing a lot more zoo's that are concerned for habitat. Here, only a half hour drive is the 'Australia Zoo', owned by the 'crocodile hunter' 'Steve Erwin' who lost his life a couple of years ago and his family. When they were cashed up, they would buy habitat, so that endangered species would have a chance.

It's good to know that progress is taking place in some areas.

I enjoyed the Bible as a kid. Can't say how I'd see it now. It got me into reading in a big way. The stories spurred my imagination too.
Re: Yet another detox question

Hi spectum, and you're right, eating some cooked food will lessen your detox. Please don't be too hard on yourself, as the process should be an enlightening experience. How? Cause you will see and feel the benefits of your change in diet. So, it's ok to slow down the detox if it gets too heavy.

Rawlion is right, and even though everyone is different, it still takes about six months for the worst of the detox to pass. For myself, even though I had lost quite a lot of weight prior to transitioning from cooked to raw, it still took about six months.

After that amount of time, I began to feel much better. Sorry, I don't want to offend anyone, but for me, the best indicator was my stool. You literally 'see' the positive changes to your digestive system by what comes out, and it took about six months for everything to be normal, or what I would suggest is normal.

It's a good idea to keep a journal (diary for the gals), so you can document the changes each day. It's good to look back on the progress that you've made, and the many incredible things that have happened to you. I kept a journal for the first year, and then only when something significant happened that was directly linked to my dietry change.

All the best to you spectrum,

Cheers, jalan

> read gariel cousens RAINBOW GREEN LIVE FOOD
> CUISINE. takes all the experimental work out of
> your quest. He is a doctor who has been 100% raw
> vegan for over 30 years and has helped patients
> heal every disease imaginable using raw food. Thus
> he has had the opportunity to test people's blood
> at various points of health and so he has a vast
> knowledge pool built up. he has written many
> books, all of which are on a complete different
> level than most other books on raw food and
> veganism.
> basically his whole thing is that if we eat too
> much sugar, at least during our healing phase, we
> will never kill off the little bugs in our blood
> that end up promoting disease like cancer. Our
> bodies are composting our own cells if we eat
> cooked food at all. sugar promotes this. He
> promotes a low sugar, high green phase in order to
> reset our blood chemistry. research already
> available for others to learn! it is the highest
> level of body readiness for evolved living in my
> opinion.

RAWLION, thank you very much this is very encouraging.

My only hesitation is that it appears Gabriel Cousins advocates both low carb AND low fat. Now perhaps I'm only thinking this because I haven't tried the experiment like Gabriel Cousins has, but I was thinking more along the lines of a low sugar/carb, high fat diet (with only a moderate amount of greens):
I am in good health with a fast metabolism (always been thin even when living a sedentary lifestyle while eating high calorie processed foods) and I do hard labor as part of my livelihood (for example, I had to ride my bike 40 miles today). I cannot afford to lose weight or strength.

That being said, do you still think Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine is the right book for me? Your input is much appreciated.

> By the way, as a general rule, fruits are good for
> bioavailable vitamins, and greens are good for
> bioavailable minerals. There is overlap, of
> course.

BTW do you have more information on this? According to nutritiondata.self.com 1 cup or orange wedges has the following vitamins:
Vitamin A 405 IU 8%
Vitamin C 95.8 mg 160%
Vitamin D ~ ~
Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) 0.3 mg 2%
Vitamin K 0.0 mcg 0%
Thiamin 0.2mg 10%
Riboflavin 0.1 mg 4%
Niacin 0.5 mg 3%
Vitamin B 60.1 mg 5%
Folate 54.0 mcg 14%
Vitamin B 120.0 mcg 0%
Pantothenic Acid 0.5 mg 5%

Whereas 1 cup of, let's say turnip greens, has:
Vitamin A 6372 IU 127%
Vitamin C 33.0 mg 55%
Vitamin D ~ ~
Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) 1.6 mg 8%
Vitamin K 138 mcg 173%
Thiamin 0.0 mg 3%
Riboflavin 0.1 mg 3%
Niacin 0.3 mg 2%
Vitamin B 60.1 mg 7%
Folate 107 mcg 27%
Vitamin B 120.0 mcg 0%
Pantothenic Acid 0.2 mg 2%

Other fruits and greens look similar and it seems like the greens generally have as much vitamins as fruits (in addition to more minerals). That's why I said it "seems" that greens "should be" more nourishing than fruits, but I haven't considered bioavailability.

Where can I learn about bioavailablity of vitamins and minerals?
