The community would be an off the grid community that would include an alternative energy research facility, organic gardens, and spiritually open. I myself am a Christian and strong believer in Jesus, but I'm not against other belief systems based on love.

I would love to have about 100+ acres where people really respect the land and live in conjunction with the land. I envision bamboo huts or houses, minimal electronics and cars to keep man made noise down and people truely living in community. Maybe even going so far as a community dining area where people would take 1 night a month and make a dinner for the whole community, so our dinner preparation time is down to just 1 day a month.

Also Equador is one of the easier countries to become a citizen in. The last time I looked it was just being able to show $1000 a month in passive or investment income, or $50,000 invested in a business that would employ at least 2 locals. Considering the going wage is about $1.50 an hour, it makes forming an exporting business more attractive.

My other goal is to help create businesses for the villagers and locals to improve their lifestyle without the hustle and materialism so prevalent in the USA.

Any ideas, help in the planning, knowing possible locations in Equador, or other interests, please post or contact me.

We are looking for 1-2 caretakers (couple preferred) for our small organic farm and homestead on 40 pristine acres in Belize, Central America. Ideally we would like a long-term commitment; a minimum of 6 months stay is required. We've had people ask if they can get a part time job in Belize. You will not be able to get a job in Belize with your tourist visa status. Jobs go to citizens of Belize.

Responsibilities:

About 1-3 hours of work per day including:

* Mowing / Weed eating / chopping / maintaining grounds
(We have a 2 acre fenced and cleared area for the cabins and orchard. Most work is within this area.)
* Orchard tree care - fertilizing / mulching / watering during dry season
* Maintenance of solar power and water systems (minimal)
* General maintenance of buildings
* Care of three dogs

You receive:

* Accommodations in one of our cabins
* A monthly stipend towards food and immigration fees
* Organic fruit from the orchard (bananas occasionally now, next year many trees with begin producing)
* Internet access (bring your own computer)
* Use of our work truck when we are gone
* Immersion in pristine nature with pure air and water

Most of your time can be spent relaxing and pursuing your own interests such as writing, internet business, etc. This is an excellent opportunity for those on a contemplative spiritual path.

You can grow your own vegetables if you choose. We have raised beds ready for planting.

Enjoy privacy and the whole place when we are gone, which may be up to 4-6 months a year. When we are here, you can remain here or use the opportunity to get away, visit family and pursue other interests.

Since we have 3 territorial dogs here, we can't have caretakers bring their own pets, sorry.

Ideal candidate:

* Able to make at least a 6 month commitment, but we prefer a year or longer
* Internally strong, balanced, gentle person
* High integrity
* Independent and self-reliant
* Can both follow directions and make sound decisions
* Good work ethic
* Likes being alone as the property is remote
* Very fit, healthy (you need to be quite tough and strong for this lifestyle)
* Natural health enthusiast; high fruit/vegetarian diet
* Avid dog lover (you enjoy dogs living indoors with you)
* Loves and respects nature
* Experienced with permaculture / organic farming / orcharding
* Have lived in hot/humid climates without a/c (fans keep you cool here)
* Experience living in a third world country
* Familiar with off-grid living, solar power, spring water system
* Good basic handyman skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.
* Experienced caretaker

I've never done anything like this before but I can see it happening, have been preparing for this change for the last two years, and am confident that the right folks will come together.

I'm so happy to find this forum today as I was just searching for the same things! Wonderful to 'manifest' with you all indeed! :)

I'm a big fan of Chile and will be relocating there late this year or by January/February latest to find land and begin building a simple home and garden for myself. It would be ideal to find like minds and pool resources as these threads describe, building our own village.

In my research, Chile has the most straight forward immigration and land purchase laws for foreigners. If anyone has interest in exploring the options in Chile further, I would love to hear from you.

I am interested in setting up the education-side as a priority, for my daughter of 4 & as you say, to attract other families.

It is not so easy to get in to Brasil without the usual requirements( marriage, offspring). My European friends have managed it, setting up a business here. I am sure it is possible for you to manage it too.

In the South of Brasil it is easy to get by with a little poruguese. But really you can just pick it up when you start living here. There is a lot of English going on.

To be honest with you all, I am a single mum with a strong desire to be part of a larger community/family & put my abundant energies & creative powers into building something for her future, for all the children, & to be nutured & nuture others.
