Do you juice? I'd like to get everyone's opinion on what your ideal juicer would look like and what kinds of functions you'd want it to feature. What kind of juicer would you feel happy to spend money on?

What features in a juicer would motivate you to use it every day?

This may be a completely idiotic question, but I just have to ask.

Am I the only person out there that runs my pulp back through the juicer once after I send the raw foods through the first time?

I just recently began juicing and even though my pulp came out dry and fluffy I had the notion to send it back through the juicer. Depending on what I had juiced I got anywhere from another 1/4c to another 1/2c of juice by doing this. I have been searching all over the internet and have yet to see anyone ever mention doing this. I also found that doing this helped some things that hadn't juiced well the first time around (especially parsley and spinach) to turn into better pulp the second time.

Just wondering if anyone else does or has done this.

Hello. I'm relatively new to juicing. I've been consuming juice daily for roughly three weeks. I started by doing a juice fast for three days and loved it. I didn't have any problems with hunger or low energy. I fell off the wagon over a weekend a week or so into my new juicer and have since tried to get back on it. However I've found myself being very hungry especially towards the end of the night towards bedtime. Has anyone had similar issues with advice? I still replace at least one meal a day with juiceIt seems like something I should power through, but around 10 or 11 I look to raid the fridge. I'm not necessarily juicing to lose weight but to consume healthier foods, which will in turn lead to losing weight.

I have been doing a time study of my juicing. The time it takes to get my vegges out, wash them, trim them, push them through the omega 8004 juicer, bottle and cleanup the machine and the mess. It takes about 25 minutes without pressing. To press my juice adds about 5-6 minutes more in time to my juicing time. I yield about 40 ozs without pressing, 50 ozs with pressing. About the same ratio of time/ to juice 1.60 ozs/ per minute of time spent, either way.
Heres the catch, why waste your time, money and all the energy it takes to grow, transport acquire your vegges! One still spends same amount of money to buy the vegges but yield 25% less juice. Still spends same time to get the vegges from the store , garden or greenhouse but yielded 25% less juice. We are wasting 20% of the energy inputs to product them and the farmers time by not pressing.
Just like gas mileage fuel efficiency standards are imposed by the government I think we need juice yield to pounds of produce used efficiency standards. JUST KIDDING, but it sure is "more green" to not waste your vegges and money by pressing your vegges. Where else can you help to preserve the environment by 20%!
An added bonus I feel is the pressed juice taste the best to me and "they" say it is better for you then unpressed juice. To see more check out my video at [youtu.be]

Has anyone used a low rpm (<150) juicer as a grinder only to be used together with a press? I'm not sure if I should buy a champion (1725 rpms) or go with a greenstar, samson, etc.. My concern is that even though the lower rpm juicer will oxidize less it might take too long or not grind the produce well and back up with juice or get jammed. I owned a 100 rpm juicer before but never used it with the blank screen so don't know if I would experience those setbacks. I will mostly be juicing apples and veggies.

I am trying to find out how many calories actually get into the juice.

Here's the situation. This morning I entered "3 organic fuji apples" into MyFitnessPal and it says 213 calories.

My Lacinato Kale at 300 grams and it says 150 calories.

I did not consume the pulp. So... how do I decide (or know) how many "calories" are left in those apples and the kale?

If 3 fuji apples = 213 calories and I am placing them in my Breville Juicer on high. I use the 850W breville juicer and do all on high. How many of those 213 calories made it into my juice, so I can consume them. How many of them got thrown out in (with) the pulp (remnants)?

I'm currently losing weight via a weight loss goal that I started. I have been blogging about it. I was 252 pounds in January 2013 and am now 194.5, as of today (March 28th, 2013).

I'd love a response to this... as I am trying to determine my caloric count (consumed) throughout the day. I typically don't count the calories so much, but I have a goal in mind and I read online that there are approximately 3500 calories in a pound of fat. I'm looking to learn how many calories go into the juice from my fruits and vegetables.

Thank you!

Hey everyone, new to these forums and writing from NYC. I was wondering if any of the experienced raw juicers out there have heard of high pressure processing (HPP). Is a juice that's made using this process still actually raw? A friend of mine told me no since the processing destroys the live enzymes that are essential to a juice being raw. Wondering what the folks around here think or know about it. Thanks!

I've been looking for to buy this juicer in UK for a really long time, but everywhere is so incredibly expensive!:( I'm sure there must be a site or actual place where you can get it for more reasonable price. If anyone is familiar or could recommend something, I would really appreciate it! I really wish to find it!

That's the Juicer I'm talking about:
I finally took the plunge today and got my Omega 8006. I then headed to my local Costco (gardening coming soon!) and stocked up on some pretty sweet apples, spinach, carrots, lemons and over to a local produce market for my kale and cucumbers. Just finishing up my first green drink and WOWZA! Soooo yummy. John and you fine folks have totally inspired me and I just wanted to encourage you to continue to post...you might not think people are listening/reading...but we are :D

Spiral slicers - which is easiest on the back, arms? (2 replies)

Hello, all. I am new to the forum, looking to get more raw and fresh foods into my diet, and trying to find fun ways to present vegetables to my 3 and 6 year olds. I have a newborn as well, so efficiency is important! I want a good spiral slicer. I have a cheapo similar to the Joyce Chen one. It doesn't work very well. I am willing to spend $100 for a decent one. I am considering the Benriner vertical or the Spirooli (if only it did thin noodles), but I figure maybe there are brands I have not yet come across. Prioritized list of requirements is:

- good quality
- available to ship immediately to canada
- requiring minimal muscle power, easy on the back and arms, so my kids can use it (under supervision)
- able to do anything from angel hair noodles to ribbons
- easy to clean
- blade not easily accessible when in use (think 3 and 6 year olds, though if I can't get this feature, I will manage).

I was considering the Benringer, but it doesn't have suction cups on the feet. Maybe I could add rubber feet.

What model would meet my needs?
Are vertical ones physically easier to use, or horizontal ones?
Do vertical ones not need suction cups on the feet?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
