Date: July 25, 2008 05:53PM Reading about light pollution for astronomy I ran across this:
[www.sciencedaily.com] [jnci.oxfordjournals.org] I wonder if more natural light, like oil lamps might be ok. Re: Artificial light and cancer

Date: July 25, 2008 11:50PM Thanks so much for posting this information, brome -- I always just knew artificial light is 'bad' for us. I'm going to try to leave the lights off as long as possible, and then go to bed when it gets dark. Re: Artificial light and cancer

Date: July 26, 2008 09:15PM I think the worst light would be fluorescent, not only the flickering light itself but also the high voltage electric fields and associated radiation which might be even more harmful. Go for oil lamps (assess the possible fire danger first esp with children present). Stay with incandescent or wait for the new light emitting diodes.
High voltage electric fields and radiation are also a problem with the cathode ray tubes of TV and computers. Go for flat screens. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
