did anyone see that movie

what i found more interesting than the movie ( which was a bit disorienting)

was the SPECIAL FEATURES

where they interviewed real people who had "predicted' that plane crashes would occur etc. and they did and all sorts of other stuff and it really haunted them

do other people have "premonitions"

Two days before 9-11 my husband had a terrible dream. He dreamt our country had been invaded and our children were taken away from us. Most of the country was committing suicide. We decided to also and went separately to do that but couldn't go through with it and found each other and were walking down the streets to looks for the kids. There were people dead people everywhere, hanging from trees and such. He woke up crying and very shaken. My husband never has such vivid dreams and we laid in bed talking about it after. When, two days later, the planes hit the towers we were really freaked.

Thats how I became a raw foodist.

One day back in 97 I turned my computer off. And I "heard" turn it back on right now.
So I did, and there was this article about Dave Wolf and Raw foods. I read it and went Raw shortly after.

Apparently very many people all over the U.S and possably world wide had dreams relating to the 911 incident before the event. I have read a book which covered everything mind oriented, and it touched on some dream studies which were in progress before and after this time. We are connected !, and it is only ignorance which makes us presume otherwise.

some dreams were so vivid
so real
so insanely "true"

it takes my breath away to even ponder those dreams for a few seconds
they give me hope

and at other times, consternation

nevertheless, they give me a glimpse into what is real

more real than this fiction called "waking life'

i think i am more AWAKE when i am dreaming

at least, i SEE more clearly

that is for sure

then when i wake up ( get my head off the pillow)

its like i am "asleep" all over again

the dream is over

i am sleeping the moment i wake up

how ironic is that

Hey people... there was a thread posted here about a month ago with a link to a video clip of this brain scientist who had experienced a stroke which had connected her with the greater consciousness.

Does anyone know where the thread or more importantly, the link is ?

Meditation is probably the most well know method for accessing the right brain more.

Sleep deprivation and certain shamanic plants can also be used, but with caution!

AFAIK, you have this dead wrong.

"Some readers may wish to dismiss The Option Process as too simplistic and naive: that we can change our lives by just changing our beliefs, and that we can change our beliefs just by choosing to do so. However, it may be of interest to take note of Barry Neil Kaufman’s observations on the results of a recent survey done by behavioural researchers using P.E.T. (Position Emission Tomography) scanning. This allows researchers to create computer-generated colour graphics of the brain in action. The results showed that the left brain became extraordinarily active when subjects watched photographs that stimulated happiness and comfort whereas the right brain became engaged when watching scenes that generated fear, anxiety and discomfort. Therefore it showed, much to everyone’s surprise, that our capacity for happiness was very much centred in the left brain and associated with our ability to think and make judgements (or release them)."

From here (haven't been able to find the study I'll let you know if I do).

Also, as far as I know, the recent study in regards to Buddhist monks showing that their left brains are more active than the rights during deep meditation.

I can't find that study either but I'll post it if I do.

The left-brain gets a bad rap. I think it's a conspiracy to draw thoughtful people off-course. The first thing an oppressive society wants is men & women who cannot (or will not) think.

The right-brain is mercurial and needs the soothing organizing force of the left-brain. Schizophrenics and other patients with brain disorders have highly active right-brain activity especially when symptomatic.

[[The first thing an oppressive society wants is men & women who cannot (or will not) think. ]]

I've had enough of thinking to last me the rest of my life. I want to take a break from it. I'd rather be less, rather than more sensitive to society's failings. I've been too accutely aware of them as it is.

If this isn't a left v. right issue then whatever it is, I want some. It's probably not nearly that simple. But we like simiple answers.

yeah, it really is quite simplistic actually

if u really think about it ANY profoundly creative endeavor MUST partner with the underpinnings of structure, form, logic etc. otherwise it is just a mish mash

for example, take a novel, for instance
writing a novel is a HIGHLY CREATIVE process ( one could say 'right brain"winking smiley yet it requires an ENORMOUS amount of structure, form, logic etc. in order to lend it credibility, fluidity, purpose etc. otherwise no one would read it

same for a film:

film makers are not just "creative" but are actually MECHANICS

the entire film can be seen as a GINORMOUS ENGINE!! in which all the five million parts must work in synchronicity in order for the vehicle to

GO!

it is folly to say one is greater or of lesser value or pathological than the other

it is all in degrees

and they dance together like a ballroom couple in order to be harmonized

okay...that is what i think

but there could be more to it

its vastly unknown territory
the closer u get to the soul

the more everything starts swirling and wooshing louder and louder
til u can't hear any more voices and then all goes silent

Nicely said La Veronique. Creativity without structure or the ability to express it properly is horrible.

<< But we like simiple answers. >>
That's for sure. But are simple answers good for us?

I worry about my twelve year old. She likes to be in a dream world. She doesn't focus on her tasks unless they happen to fit into her fantasy of that particular moment. When we read a book about Albert Einstien and how he couldn't remember to comb his hair and other things because he was always thinking, my daughter said "That's just like me!" I wish I knew of a good way to guide her toward adding some left brained structure without quashing her beautiful imagination even a little. Adding without taking away. I find myself getting frustrated with her and I really have to watch myself.

Arugula, If you play piano isn't that left and right working in harmony? My daughter is a musician too. That is an inspiring thought.

pakd4fun - if your daughter is in a dream world and she's NOT into -- being online, her ipod, fashion and going shopping for clothes, calling her friends on the phone (like my 12 year old girl is) -- you are lucky.

My middle daughter was like that, and she was lovely, and went to Waldorf School. Then a mistake I'll always regret -- she went to an all girl's Catholic high school -- and she turned into a clone of the other girls in her class.

So if you can keep that peter pan/fairy quality of hers, that's great.

Thanks Lois. She is into fashion but balances that with extreme frugalness, but none of the other pastimes. She is into reading (big time), playing music and playing with animals and her sibs. All great things. The Waldorf method is what I am most influenced by. I am thinking of getting her into an online Waldorf school in the fall.

I think it's definitely good to try to keep kids' innate imagination and creativity as active as possible, but at the same time perhaps find a way to prepare them for the "real world", as they will have to inhabit it, and the issues that come with that, at some point in their lives. A challenging balance to be sure. I think one of the most important things to encourage in kids is their natural curiosity, their thirst for knowledge, as that wonder will keep them happy throughout their lives.

Cheers,
J

Found the study. Jump to 17:07.

Activity on the right side of the brain is associated with depression. Left side with joy. Experienced meditators can activate far more left brain activity than normal folks but this takes years of meditation training.
