FROM FAIZA in exile. Shattered

Where is freedom, democroacy, transparency, and the young goverment
that came on to save us from the dictator's injustice?
Where is our dignity? Where are our human rights? where is our future?
and that of our children? Does anyone think about us? Does
anyone feel sad about us?and want to find basic solutions to stop
violence, restore the country's stability, and get people back into
their homes, to live safely and securely, like other people of the
worlds nations?
Why must Iraqis alone pay the price of war merchant's greed?
And why would others remain silent?
Almost all the world is wacthing silently what is happening in Iraq...
And the devil might think sometimes that he has won, but they say-
that who laughs last, laughs a lot...
And we have nothing but to wait and be patient, until the devil is defeated.

Faiza Al-Arji Faiza ia a mother of three sons who are scatterd to the
world; she has moved from Iraq to Jordon where she is trying to help
other Iraqis. She left her business, her memories, and her friends.
Occupation is terrorism! Halburton Out Now!

I think many in this country are awakening, or already have, and really care. I'm personally horrified by what we've done to Iraq. It will take them decades to undo the damage, not only to infrastructure, but the deeper psychological damage of having been plundered and psychologically raped, and so many of their innocent countrymen murdered. Most disturbing, too, is the invisible damage caused by depleted uranium that has caused so many babies to be born with horrible birth defects in Iraq, so many children and adults to now have cancer. Americans need to be educated about these effects and to demand that these weapons be eliminated.

A big reason the people aren't protesting more about Iraq, and don't seem to care enough about what we've done to the Iraqi people, is that the news media essentially blacks out this information. Remember Viet Nam? The war was on the news every night, in all its graphic, gory detail. People saw what was happening and were appalled. Americans are so removed from the Iraq War that they have to be reminded.

The difference between Iraq & Vietnam is that the media had pretty much unrestricted access to anyplace in Vietnam that they wanted to go to report on the war..They were limited mostly by their own fear of death, by their willingness to go into hot areas where fighting was fierce, & not by the military..In Iraq the military learned it's Vietnam & Gulf War lessens well & has limited embedded reporters to a very few compared to Vietnam..All the rest have to get their news from these embedded reporters or from the various military PR releases..Needless to say this has drastically limited the amount of unbiased coverage that Americans have seen on the newscasts..Also, take into account that the US is using mercenaries to perform a lot of the duties that should be performed by active duty personnel..Many of the most highly-trained people are fighting for very large paychecks, not for their country..The private contractor mercenaries do not want any kind of scrutiny into their activities, so reportage of this sector of the war is virtually nil..
