Date: September 02, 2010 04:23PM GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
The Coast Guard says no one was killed in the blast, which was reported by a commercial helicopter flying over the area Thursday morning. All 13 people aboard the rig have been accounted for, with one injury. The extent of the injury was not known. Coast Guard Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesau said some of those from the rig were spotted in emergency flotation devices. Seven Coast Guard helicopters, two airplanes and three cutters were dispatched to the scene from New Orleans, Houston and Mobile, Ala., Ben-Iesau said. She said authorities do not know whether oil was leaking from the site. The Department of Homeland Security said the platform was in about 2,500 feet of water and owned by Mariner Energy of Houston. DHS said it was not producing oil and gas. The Deepwater Horizon rig leased by BP was in about 5,000 feet of water when it exploded and sank in April, killing 11 workers and triggering a leak of about 206 million gallons of oil. ...Jodi, the banana eating buddhist Re: another oil rig explodes off the coast of Louisiana this morning

Date: September 02, 2010 07:57PM funny how initial reports say it wasnt a working platform producing oil and gas and just a few minutes ago they say there is now an mile long oil slick and oh !
"A homeland security update obtained by The Associated Press said the platform was producing 58,800 gallons of oil and 900,000 cubic feet of gas per day. The platform can store 4,200 gallons of oil."[news.yahoo.com] gee they sure flip flop more than a louisiana catfish !! ...Jodi, the banana eating buddhist Re: another oil rig explodes off the coast of Louisiana this morning

Agree wholeheartedly Tam; It is total madness...They report on it...and now on to page 2...like this is going to be a common occurrence from now on, so get used to it. And people are still eating shrimp & other fish from those waters - they must be crazy! Re: another oil rig explodes off the coast of Louisiana this morning

Date: September 02, 2010 09:06PM Yeah, the Food section in today's Detroit Free Press was all about Gulf seafood, and I just automatically thought, "PROPAGANDA!"
Let's add to the horror of this latest catastrophe: Yesterday, the owners of the platform, Mariner Energy, protested the moratorium on drilling. You can't make this stuff up!
