Live Sex Show Spices up Class in Chicago
Posted by: banana who ()

[news.yahoo.com]

Normally, I would not necessarily advocate for something like this but I feel that in a classroom setting, this exploration of sexuality is a lot different from a pornographic film, in that the latter is merely a tool to provoke lust and on a very base level. At least there is some intellectual inquiry going on here.

The topic of the day was bondage, swinging and other fetishes...

Eh...?

I wouldn't want my child attending classes where they promote deviant sexual behavior...but then again, this is my conservative point of view.

I saw this article today. I think it's disgusting. Everybody already knows all about most regular sexual acts, so why go to a show about it. If this show was in a sleazy part of town in a club, it would be frowned upon, but because it's at a college, it's suddenly great? And why do students need to learn and watch sex when there are plenty of other subjects that are more helpful to become a responsible contributing member of society. I never did think sex should be taught in school and I hope the taxpayers aren't paying for this. Just more in-your-face garbage from the anything-goes side.

Seriously? You guys? Putting an actual human face on sex acts, even those some consider "deviant" is WAY better than kids watching it in a completely detached inhuman setting like on a screen (BTW they are ALL watching this stuff and worse online, don't be fooled). They saw these were actual human beings, not 2D "entertainment". I don't know that I am so opposed to it, frankly.

Would it be more ok if it were just a regular old sex act, nothing fancy?

In a college setting, im not really opposed, as part of a human sexuality class, any earlier though and I think thats messed up, and no, not every kid is watching bondage porn on the internet... not every adult is either,lol... its a fairly small subset of the population thats interested in that, its a LOT of people, but a small amount percentage wise... its kind of funny, but must of the submissive people out there are high powered business men,lol...(in the BDSM world that is) sadists can come in just about any form though... (I have multiple friends directly involved in the industry, including 2 that have been in it for over 40 years... ones retired now though, lol)

A discussion about various fetishes and toys - acceptable.
A demonstration of intercourse in public student environment - unacceptable and illegal.
The college should be repremanded.

Want to watch sex shows live? Go to an establishment licensed for that. Or Amsterdam. winking smiley

It's making for lively talk radio banter - I listen to a wide variety of talk/am/shortwave/internet stream & I am hearing a lot about it.

Curiously, in liberal Boston the consensus is that it was a bad idea as well...

One caller brought up an interesting point; What exactly was "educational" about this demonstration?

Eh, I think it was probably crossing the line, but that's for the university administrators to decide. It was in a human sexuality class, which falls under the psychological, rather than biological science rubric, so it was less inappropriate than such a demo would have been in a world history class, for instance. You sign up for human sexuality, an elective, you know what you're getting into . . .

I understand why certain people would feel personally shocked by news of this. IMO, dismissing this as a demonstration of deviancy is a.) making it into a values judgment scenario, which it isn't really--it's legal[not obscenity]or illegal[obscenity], and b.) suggests an unfamiliarity with the Kinsey Institute's work: Your deviancy is another's normal, and a class in human sexuality oughtn't to skirt around that. My own response to having to sit through this would have been to cringe and want it to be over--the demo, I mean! But that's me. Or maybe I would have closed my eyes and thought of England, LOL!

At the very least, some boys in that class may make more, um, conscientious spouses in the future smiling smiley

Yes, "deviant" Canada here LOL.

Calling genitals cutesy names or things like "private parts" only plays into a general feeling of ambiguity and shame about body parts and sexuality in particular. Studies have shown that children that know and use the proper names for their body parts are FAR less likely to experience sexual abuse from a predator. That carries over into adult life as well, a person who is familiar and comfortable with their body and sexuality is less likely to be "deviant" in the true sense of the word, as in incapable of meaningful fulfilling contact sexually and emotionally. Society can't promote disassociation with body parts and natural behavior and not have widespread cultural dysfunction as a result.
What I'm saying is that it's not possible to successfully subvert sexuality in vast groups of people, it will find a way to show itself. Look at the Japanese with their repressive culture, the sexual "deviance" there is extreme. A trend over the past few years is to have young looking girls dressed up as though they are in triage. Shorty school skirt and neck brace, arm or leg in a cast and faux bruising. Seriously.
And look at our culture in NA, repress sexuality and you get Brittany Spears and worse, Christina Aguilera! And 14 year old girl's body parts selling cellulite cream in ads and that pervy Ralph Lauren and his photos that verge on child abuse images.
It is not possible to erase humanity's prime biological drive to procreate and curiosity about that until we deem it age appropriate. Children are born well aware of their bodies, they enjoy themselves physically from a very young age, they are entirely sensate beings. Anyone who has ever changed a diaper or bathed a child knows this, they are shameless about themselves, it is only due to our behavior as a culture that they learn shame.
We work hard as creating this culture of shame and taboo around sexuality in the misguided belief that we're doing the "right" thing when the reverse is true. In cultures where children are well aware of sexuality and it is considered simply another facet of life, nothing shameful or special or weird or secretive, just something people do, those children grow up without gender identity issues, without body image issues, without confusion about their roles in society, they grow up healthy in a way that our children do not.
There is a defining moment in life where one culturally becomes an adult in many indigenous cultures. Not here though, people are infantilized forever and never grow up, never fully own themselves as people, as sexual beings, as adults.

So no, I don't think there was anything wrong with that class. People who didn't want to stay were given an opportunity to leave. The students that stayed were interested in viewing the performance, I assume since they were in University they were all adults capable of making that choice for themselves. I would be more interested in what they have to say about it than anyone else. It's not really any of our business to judge it since it's not our class, we weren't there and we just have no idea what really occurred. It's easy to judge something from a story but the subtlties of that interaction are in no way conveyed to us. It sounds to me as though it unfolded organically and respectfully in context. The negative reaction is coming from some knee-jerk puritanism if you ask me.

Coco: Bravo!!! What you wrote is exactly how I feel but I doubt I could have done the viewpoint justice compared to you. That Japanese fetish industry: recently I read a story on Yahoo! about these girls making videos crushing rabbits or kittens with their heels or something. You probably saw this article. Very sick stuff and of course due to repression in a society as a whole. As I now understand it, it kind of morphed into the sex act at the last minute, although students were warned about it. Apparently 100-150 of the 500 students in that class stayed, so at least two-thirds did not want to see that and left.

I felt like i practically had to after I gave into it for the text breasts,
( . Y . ) If you look closely at my breasts (lol) you will see there is exactly 3 spaces inside, and each one separate is exactly 5... this has been a public service announcement on the the weirdness of OCD and treatment without meds... the more you knooooooow <3 hahahaha

It's a repressive attitude that encourages truly deviant behavior like pedophilia in the first place. Like I said, if natural urges and desires are subverted they will find a way to come out.

ETA the rest of that article is just hateful rhetoric. A person's mind has to be so sick to even write garbage like that.

LOL Rockettongue sticking out smiley no silicon for me pleasetongue sticking out smiley and actually, im not a fan of really large breasts, aesthetically speaking, sometimes it fits, but sometimes it just makes a woman look so top heavy like she could fall over at any moment...especially the really big implants...not attractive to me... D or lower depending on the woman and her frame can look nice, but really, it has no impact one way or another on my attraction to some one (unless they are giant implants...that just weirds me out...) hahaha... its kind of funny how ironic this conversation is...lol

KidRaw,

The fact that blogger Duane Lester[a perv name if ever I heard one] falsely conflates, in the fourth paragraph, pedophilia with homosexulity, a hypothesis long since discredited by research, thoroughly taints anything else Lester has to say. I am not even going to dissect the misrepresentation of Kinsey's work, or attempt to explain how the mentioning of Nazis in the first paragraph[!], currently a disturbing compulsion among certain groups, merits ridicule from someone like me.

Philippics like this, which bear the veneer of pedagogy and considered examination, but which upon deeper inspection prove to be nothing more than unsubstantiated anti-fill-in-the-blank hyperbole, are exactly why I ask that posters be well-informed so that they are vigilant about what they think is valid or accurate. This blog entry does not qualify.

How you go from discussion of the relative inappropriateness of a sex demonstration in a college class of adults to insinuating through a linked blog that this is all some vast gay perversion conspiracy is something I cannot understand.
