Today a bear crossed the road right in front of our driveway!

This is my first sighting of a black bear.

They have black bears in new Zealand? Or, am I confused?

I have only seen a black bear once, from a car at a distance. This is one of my favorite funny photos, with the caption, especially:

We have kept our farm in New Zealand (and definitely will be going back), but have moved back to Virginia for a few years for a business. One person is living in our NZ house and another is staying in the barn/studio.

I miss my donkeys TERRIBLY, but couldn't afford to bring them and didn't want to subject them to such a difficult flight, etc. Fortunately, the guy staying in the barn adores the donks and I know they're safe and happy.

But while here in ole Virginny I'm making the best of it. We're in a rural area. Deer are plentiful. I saw a fawn on our porch one morning. There are wild turkeys, rabbits and John even saw a bobcat in our front yard. Now and then we'll hear a pack of coyotes at night. I'm not particularly fond of snakes (of which I've been seeing plenty), but appreciate their place in the ecosystem. And I saw a fox. However, the bear was a special treat!

My life is not wild, but I have a lot of wildlife in it.
