watched Dark Matter yesterday, that was pretty darn good too. sad and unneccessary in the end, tragic.

I don't think so, but maybe for a young viewer it would
be interesting.
I'm getting ready to watch "Out of Africa", with Robert Redford and
Meryl Streep....WY

coco,

That movie--talk about nervous tittering! The interview with the gay reversal pastor has to go down as one of most awkward conversations on film.

i freaking loved every second of it. that sanctimonious BA$TARD, may he rot in hell for all eternity! ah well, at least he was gracious enough to end his interview with laughter.
i kept thinking about all the people in the interviews watching the movie afterwards with the flashes to visuals driving bill's points home *snort*. talk about uncomfortable! they had no idea what they were getting themselves into, did they... what a great film. i want a t-shirt.

is there a book thread going on anywhere? i just read the tailor of panama, don't ask me why. it was at the thrift store for 25 cents and it seemed to be one of those books i should read at some point. so interesting, strange and hard to really get a mental grip on. not that it was complex or anything, it was pretty straightforward (barring a little historical knowledge of noriega and the politics of the canal) but the language was sort of dated and a bit british to boot. it was trippy.

I'm in the process of watching "The Secret". I'm getting
excited about this. "It can change your life forever"....quote from
DVD jacket.
Has anyone seen it? It features the Law of Attraction...which is nothing
new, but implementing it it your life is the real Secret for each of
us to discover....WY

WY,

I was talking about this with some friends on the weekend. I'm the only one among us who has the DVD and I've been meaning to watch it again. It's very inspiring, and the interviews are informative. But my feeling is that it just makes sense, given the laws of physics. Garbage out: garbage in, so to speak.

I love "The Secret." It has changed my life. We have the audio of it. I had felt, and had been using the secret since I was a child. A teacher in high school talked to our class about it, calling it by a different name. When I saw the movie, so many ideas that I had proven to work for me were articulated in a way I could understand and use. The synchronicity thread ties into the power of attraction with me also.

I loved "Milk." It has been on my mind since I saw it over a month ago.

wasn't milk just so beautiful? really so inspiring. it moved me.

i saw the secret a long time ago, it's a good movie. very positive, nicely put together w visuals that leave an emotional impression. it's an old story told again. i liked it.
i prefer the philosophy of Loving What Is by Byron Katie. i know i talk about that book all the time but there you go, it's just that terrific.

dudes, is there a book thread like this movie thread??

coco,

Parts of this thread veer into book territory, if only because they mention movies based on books, but I swear I can remember writing about something I was reading on this Forum . . . . . . ah:

Maybe you should start a "What book, raw or other, are you reading now?" thread?

I like all the Naked Gun movies, the first one being the best, of course - isn't that how it always is? The II,III, etc. in a series gradually goes downhill?

At any rate, I always liked Leslie Nielsen's work, very funny - offbeat kinda guy. From there, maybe the first "Revenge of the nerds" movie. We have the tv edited version, but I feel they chopped out a little too much material.

Sorry, I don't really have any newer favs. at this point!

I thought this one would be good, but somehow Robert Downey Jr. just didn't work as Sherlock Holmes, nor Jude Law as Dr. Watson.
Agree?....Disagree?.....WY
P.S. Basil Rathbone was the classic Holmes.

not looking forward to this new take on "sexy" sherlock. you can't just throw stars at something to make it good in my mind. i'll give it a try but i expect way more flash and bang than i really care for.

i rewatched shawshank and it's just as good as i remembered it. not too dude for me, i liked it muchly.

babette's feast is next on my list.

Just rewatched Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy--it's a Boxing Day tradition for me. They still are among my favorite films for the values they reinforce: courage, loyalty, fealty, patience, self-abnegation, gratitude, faithfulness, the list goes on. Just the thing to watch at this time of year.

WY,

I love Guy Ritchie's movies, but was very alarmed at hearing he was remaking Sherlock Holmes--Oh noooooooo! Basil Rathbone is a fantastic Sherlock, but my favorite since I started watching the series at my gran's bended knee has been Jeremy Brett. The nuances of his portrayal--I am always awed! Shall not see the new version in theaters; may rent it when it comes out on DVD, though.

A great one, but might make some vegans squeamish.

I just saw Une conte de Noël and it was good. Not great, though. My favorites are Un Coeur en Hiver, Camile Claudel, The Story of Adele H. Adjani rocks! I also love Isabelle Huppert. La Pianiste is next on my list.

arugula,

I went through this phase as a teen when I saw every French film, as long as it had Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Beart, or Isabel Adjani in it. I loved Un Coer en Hiver, such a moving story; think I'll put the soundtrack on right now : )
