Atrocities of advertising

Folks,
Does anyone else get irked when they see a commercial for fruit loops or pop tarts being praised for now having "extra vit d & c",or a can of ravioli for containing a "full serving of vegetables" (cooked tomato sauce?).

Ugh.

I don't get irked . . . anymore. I just roll my eyes. Soon, I won't even notice.

yep i still do at times smiling smiley the milk marketing ads really tick me off .. especially when they show happily grazing cows in lush green meadows .. its so far from the truth its laughable .. poor cows

honestly in the wake of all this hoopla over airbrushing models being unrealistic visions for women .. some truth in advertising would be a refreshing change

im not holding my breath winking smiley

The food ads irk me, but the drug ads really get me going!

I see it all as an extension of our general awareness and values. You can blame the marketers, but who are they other than more of society ? The adds will change when people become more discerning with their awareness of health. Marketing caters to the consumers as much as it influences them.

Yeah, the canned meat in sauce as being more of a vegetable (and therefore a better food choice) than whole corn really bugs me.

I also don't like how the line is blurred between supplements and food, like with the kiddie juices that have DHA added and are sold as juice rather than supplements.

And, every time I go to Whole Foods, I'm dismayed by how much of what they sell aren't actually whole foods. I've always considered that a form of false advertising. The asian market down the street from me has a wider selection of whole foods.

Yes, that's one of the reasons I like Photoshop Disasters. It calls these companies on some of their nonsense. Ralph Lauren is having hissy fits.

I'd like to see a commercial siting all the bad ingredients in so-called good food - similar to that cigarette commercial stating all the obviously bad things tobacco has done to people. A commercial that goes a bit further that links certain elements of foods to certain diseases.

Wheatgrass-it does this body good!

Saw a commercial today for a jimmy dean breakfast sandwich (mcdonalds calls them egg mcmuffins)and it showed a lady at work all drained of energy, then she eats this meat/cheese/white flour atrocity and perks right up.

eaglefly,

Now those commercials really DO irritate me--whoever heard of anyone feeling energized by a Jimmy Dean breakfast?! Who?!

Or a Dennys grand slam breakfast of white flour/sugar/pork/caffeine.

Yummy.

Energy anyone?

Last night saw a commercial promoting the Manwich sloppy joe stuff in a can as having a full serving of vegetables.Well, there IS corn in there...in the form of syrup.
I have nothing against those kinds of comfort foods if a family wants to eat that, but please dont associate something like that with what could be a fresh raw salad.
Its the kids that suffer the most when they hear these messages.
