I've finally gotten around to making another wee beaded spirit doll. This one is for a friend in the BC mountains.

I'm going to post it off to her in this pouch I made to keep it safe in the mail next week. Hope she likes it!

Thanks guys!
I'm working on another one right now that involves a swirly orange super ball, lol. So far I've invested about 10 hours in it so it had BETTER TURN OUT GREAT! I'm trying out a bunch of new beading techniques from a favourite book so it's all worth it experience wise. It's very weird so far. Just what I was aiming for, ha ha.

Coco, regarding the beaded thingie: I would like to learn how to make beaded jewelry, like the Native Americans do. I have looked at kits with looms (cheapie things) and online. Do you have any recommendations about designs for earrings in particular? I want to make some hanging earrings that may be little people made out of beads.

BW the first step is to master some of the basic techniques like peyote stitch etc. There are some great youtube videos out there so you can see how it's done and try it out with little initial cost. All you need is thin, strong thread, a beading needle, and some seed beads, a very small investment. Once you feel comfortable reading and following instructions and are familiar with some of the terminology and get a feel for how shapes are constructed you can pretty much do anything. You should see this freaky thing I'm making now, it's an absolute frankeconstruction that's somehow just working. It's SO cool.

Here's a place to start

This is a GREAT book (I have it)

And I think this is the sort of project you're after in particular

Oooh...thanks!smiling smiley I would like to learn how to make jewelry in general. I have never thought of myself as crafty, but I always was into making clothes for my dolls and stuff. I would like to learn how to sew, knit and make jewelry. But it requires actually DOING SOMETHING rather than just yakking about it!

I like small projects that can be carried around, are easy to pick up and put down, are completed quickly but can be incorporated into larger projects and that use more than one technique. There's a sense of accomplishment with those small items, you know? If it was all big projects I'd never feel satisfied, I'd be so intimidated all the time.

This is a current fave, sewing, embroidery, beading, patchwork, all combined!

Here's a video tutorial in case you're interested. She makes journal covers and wall hangings out of hers but I've been doing pouches and bags.

And this is the beading book I've got and love so much. All the techniques I've been using are in here, it's a bit advanced though so I'd recommend getting familiar with the basics first.

I've been making panties out of old tshirt for years and a friend recently asked me how to do it, here's the tutorial I made up for her just in case you feel like making something strange and wonderful.

And here's what to do with the left over tshirt bits so you don't waste anything.

You can make an amazing rag rug with tshirt yarn.

I've been making lots of stuff lately! I was in a rut but I think it's broken now. The impending loss of the studio space is so motivating, there simply isn't any room at home for all those supplies so it's all got to get used up post haste, lol.
