Date: April 13, 2012 03:13PM Oh man, I would come out in a second and you know it. Cousin (4 kids) and I are looking to find a farm together, we talked about BC though it would be so hard on the grandparents. So long as there are other kids for mine to play with we'd be happy with occasional family visits.
Trailer works to start with, cheaper than a new built yurt though I have building plans for a whole bunch of natural shelters. I'll find those and send you the name of the book they were copied from. Are you coming to the mud build? If not I'll take good notes and teach ya everything I learn, woot! Start an artists/farmers collective! Check out Small Pond Arts in Picton. Oh man, super groovy! Date: April 13, 2012 03:57PM Ah, cool. Check permies.com for info on planting a forest, food forest, what-have-you. You'll find resources galore there, plus info on hosting Wwoofers, do consider that as a way to get going. You'll need shelter for volunteers but there is lots of info on shipping container apartments, wofati building, etc on permies. A year or two of work and you'll be ready for wwoofers Jo. Date: April 13, 2012 09:00PM Looks like a great place; by the Wind River Mtns, Tetons, and Yellowstone. Nice. Lots of geothermal activity that could be used to heat house and greenhouse. Hot springs often have arsenic and other heavy metals. Have your well water checked.

Date: April 14, 2012 07:20PM This is great Jodi! Congrats on your very own open space
You might start with building a tiny house on wheels. There are plans for those online. Then you could move it around as you plant and plan out things for the property. What are some of your dreams/goals/ for the property and lifestyle Jodi? Love, Prism Re: buying 24 acres in wyoming

Date: April 15, 2012 06:46PM Jodi, I just checked out that area on Wikipedia; congrats! Supposedly it's a big tourist area so in a way it's good that even though you've got ten acres, you can still be relatively close to other things for convenience's sake. A blog is a good idea. Congrats Re: buying 24 acres in wyoming

Date: April 15, 2012 08:15PM Here's a variation of lasagne gardening and hugelkulture that's so much less effort than digging out beds and takes care of whatever scrub is growing where you want your plants and trees to go. Yeilds a no-weed, no water solution.
Best of luck! [www.nwedible.com] The original (pretty sure you know about this already). [www.richsoil.com] Re: buying 24 acres in wyoming

Date: April 20, 2012 01:16PM The best way to grow trees would probably be to research what's native to the area. That way it's more likely to thrive given the natural climate. Re: buying 24 acres in wyoming

Water saving methods: I've used a stainless steel industrial pressure sprayer (like for pesticides) for instance, [www.northerntool.com] heated up on a rocket stove and can do a whole shower including washing my hair or dishes on one gallon. Humanure composting toilets! [humanurehandbook.com] Arid climate fruit trees and plants. Drip irrigation. Just some thoughts. Re: buying 24 acres in wyoming
