FCC wants my SSN

Date: February 26, 2013 11:29AM I am so irritated by this. I am studying to get my amateur radio operator's license & I see that on test day I must submit a photo i.d. & my Social Security number.
I have had it with the endless intrusion by every arm of the federal govt. into my life. Can I move to another world? Re: FCC wants my SSN

Date: February 26, 2013 07:34PM VJ, what do you do with the license? I am really surprised that they would ask you for that. I wonder why.
I know that for long-range walkie talkies, you have to get an FCC license. Is this the same thing? Re: FCC wants my SSN

Date: February 26, 2013 09:20PM I think you can get out of giving your SS number sometimes. If you go to a doctor and the form asks for your SS number, you aren't obligated to give it. I wonder what would happen if you said you forgot to bring it with you.
I operate my radio every day - I turn it on and off and turn the volume up and down and change the stations Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/26/2013 09:21PM by KidRaw. Re: FCC wants my SSN

I could try that & then at the last minute say, of wait, it might be in my car. Don't know how that would play out. I may give it a shot. I'm also looking into getting tested in person instead of in a classroom setting. An individual might be more inclined to let the rule slide than an examiner in a "meeting" setting. Then again, if it is a hard & fast FCC rule... "And...why do you transmit by shortwave? Are you broadcasting?" Well, it's actually more than shortwave, that's just a part of it, but yes...An amateur radio operator is transmitting/broadcasting. You would probably know it as "Ham" radio, but being a vegan, I kinda detest that term, lol. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
