As hard as they try, there's zero logical correlation between the shooting and meditation. The guy may have written an email before he went and shot those people. Does this mean that writing email can cause people to lose it? Anytime something righteous shows any sign of becoming popular, they try to demonize it.

I don't think Time Magazine is mainstream media, but I agree with you that a connection is ridiculous.

The whole thing is such a sad tragedy. Mental diseases are so misunderstood and articles like this make that misunderstanding so much worse.

He was being "treated" for PTSD by a doctor. Maybe "they" used meditation to confuse it with medication.

How is Time not mainstream? Just curious. They're owned by Time Warner and have the world's largest circulation for a weekly magazine. As far as I know, you don't get more mainstream than that.

He obviously sought out meditation to help with his illness. For all we know, it did provide him with some relief. Not enough by any means, but perhaps some.

Instead of calling for more gun control, we should really be looking at taking mental illness more seriously.

Large distribution yeah, but it's practically a tab rag since the merger. Nonetheless I stand corrected...

It's easy to lump people into one side of an argument or another and label them, isn't it. I think it's a far more complicated issue than that. I've always been for realistic laws regarding access to large ammo mags and military style weapons, but a defender of peoples right to own guns. I'm not for more gun control, but at this point, I think we should consider more control over who has access to guns during certain periods of their lives. Especially when a know mental issue is present.

PTSD and clinical depression are serious illnesses, and most of society acts like they are fake or patients should just "snap out of it".

Family members, friends, doctors, and maybe even laws need to make sure people don't have access to weapons that can be used to harm themselves, or others.

I guess that I see all widely engaged/mainstream media as tabloid journalism at heart. Been to CNN lately?

I agree with you, but I'm also afraid that people won't seek treatment if they find out that their access to guns will be revoked once they're officially diagnosed. That seems to be one of the major catches to taking guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. There are early stages of mental illness where it can be hidden. That's when you ideally want treatment to begin. You don't want to wait until it can no longer be contained.
