personally i use a drill to drain the water out then a sledge to break it ..

Wow, heavy-handed method. Texas Chainsaw Massacre Style. Plants can feel pain and are emotional. I use a hammer and screwdriver - they prefer that smiling smiley

I have done it both ways(in the video). It depends on the sharpness of the machete and the maturity of the coconut.

i never seen a coconut like that

it looks almost like an overgrown mexican papaya

the ones i see look all hairy like a bowling ball

and then there are the thai coconuts that have already been de skinned

is this what the thai coconuts look like before their outer husk is sloughed off?

I have been successful using nothing sharper that a paring knife for the young coconuts. Hairy ones are a whole other animal but all you do is shave the sides of a shaved coconut and using the tip of the paring knife you start to pierce it at various places along the side of the tip (which you had shaved down) until you find the "sweet spots" where it's soft. Then you just saw around and lift the "lid."
