Those figures were mostly bought with 20 piece whalebone/metal corsets. It often took two people to stuff someone into them.

The birds who grew the hat feathers were often killed for them and many hatters went mad from mercury fumes off gassed from the felting process.

Those figures were totally doable without corsets.

I had a 22" waist for most of my life.

Then came the menopause--now it is 25".

I could regain the youthful measure with a corset or something but I do not care enough to torture myself.

What I have now is not perfect but darned near it for my age group.

I still enjoy the pictures.
