Side Effects of psychiatric drugs

Date: May 04, 2007 01:29AM The recent incident in Virginia has generated much discussions about some of the undesirable side effects of antidepressants including the use of the medications by others who also committed antisocial activities. Obviously all medications are chemicals designed to acheive a specific reaction, which is the whole point of taking them, but reading any drug guide or inserts will show that there are always other reactions that can take place, which are called side effects, adverse reactions, off-label uses, etc depending if these are desirable or unwanted effects.
I came across this article by Peter Breggin, about the spellbinding effects of psychiatric drugs, a term he labels as intoxication anosognosia. It's lengthy reading, but nevertheless interesting. In a sense it reminds me of the effects of some cooked foods on people who find themselves addicted to them when trying to go all raw, because in its own way the chemical reactions of those foods result in substituting for unmet needs and trying to stop cold turkey then creates the ugly withdrawal problems. Wishing you vibrant health Re: Side Effects of psychiatric drugs
