Hybrid or bio-diesel: which one is better for the earth?

From personal experience and from research; which car is better for the earth and enviroment; a hybrid (pruis, running on a lot of electric, etc) or a bio-diesel ( diesel, using recycled resteraunt grease, etc)? heres my thoughts on the above question ... i have a standard diesel vw golf .. in a couple of years i want to convert it strait vegetable oil i have thought about the electric/gas hybrid my thoughts are on the overall footprint (maximum environmental damage) gas is not a renewable resource .. its limited electricity is not renewable either to some degree if we continue to rely on damming rivers ..dams are huge environmental damaging footprints biodeisel from grease is renewable .. keep growing more plants to make more fuel.. plants contribute positively to the environment IF (isnt there always an if lol) theyre grown organically is it possible to grow a organic fuel source cheaply enough for the masses to use? i think so .. i hope so... thats my opinions...Jodi, the banana eating buddhist  Re: Hybrid or bio-diesel: which one is better for the earth?

Date: June 21, 2007 10:41PM I think bio-fuels in general are a bad idea - the reason being they take resources away from food production, with price increases which will affect the world's poor, as is happening already (google it). Also, bio-fuels will only serve to increase soil degradation, again with bad consequences for us.
I think the best solution would be electric cars with rechargeable batteries which obtain their energy from electricity produced from clean, renewable sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, wave and tidal power. There is plenty to go around. If I had to choose a car right now, I would probably go for a hybrid electric car, as the least worst stop-gap measure. Cheers, J  Edited 1 time(s). the sources are here .. they just dont seem to use them .. i live near a huge geothermal area and youd think the town would capitilize on that ..besides attracting people to the hot tubs .. but no ..
