Meaning: While the new broom may have stronger bristles and apparently be more effective at sweeping, the old broom by being around a longer time (age), acquired much experience to know the tricks of the trade and be more efficient at sweeping since it's better acquainted with all the nooks and crannies of the house (cumulative knowledge acquired over the years).
