Art or porn?

Date: September 29, 2007 01:09AM Hello all,
This is a little different than most subjects discussed here, but it's in the news and I think it's interesting. I wondered what everyone here thought. "A photograph by a controversial American artist which is part of Sir Elton John's private collection has been seized by police from a gallery on suspicion it may have breached child pornography laws." [www.telegraph.co.uk] I have seen the picture, and I must say it made me quite uncomfortable. Then I had to ask myself, why did it make me feel uncomfortable? It seems to me that in our world today we are taught to sexualize everything. Everything, even the innocence of children. Regarding the picture in question, a normal adult would see it quite differently than a pedophile would. Anyway, I was just curious about your opinions. inspirit - aka coolkarma Re: Art or porn?

Date: September 29, 2007 05:01AM Porn. Children are intelligent but they're not from another world. I believe they're naturally shy. I saw a slightly censored version of this and won't look at it again. I find it extremely disrespectful. Re: Art or porn?

Date: October 02, 2007 12:51AM I haven't seen it but I have to say I wouldn't want a picture like that of my child on display. I might not consider it porn in a family album though. I take nudes of my kids. When they are little they never want to get clothes on. Re: Art or porn?

Date: October 02, 2007 02:08AM That's so different. Family nudes are completely different than a staged or 'composed' nude of this nature. Yecchhhh! Re: Art or porn?

Date: October 02, 2007 04:58AM If I had just randomly run across that picture on the internet without knowing the story behind it, I probably would have reported it to the police, actually.
Another thing, like someone said, a nude pic in a family photo album (used to embarrass us as adults at family reunions) are one thing but when it's put out on display it's whole different context. It's way too personal and intimate for children. now...back to debating Ron Paul inspirit - aka coolkarma Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
