Hi Sharrhan. I finally got back online. I had a GREAT time at the park with you and Jonathan on Sunday. Hopefully, next time I'll be in Malden longer. I could have spent another day chatting with you. I realized there was sooooo much more I wanted to talk about.

Love the picture with the cake. What a riot.

Take care and hope things continue to go well for you.

Love,

I went to the community garden last night to do my June harvest manager thing -- I have to report to everybody what's ready to be picked -- and when I was picking strawberries I encountered this strange creature! When I first picked this big red strawberry, I thought there was a brown leaf on it. Then I noticed it had a distinct shape, so I didn't touch it. I stodd there, holding the strawberry in my hand, with this winged brown creature, alive but totally inert, on it. The creature was a little bigger than a moth, very sturdy looking, almost like a humming bird, with its proboscis dug deep into the strawberry. The wings weren't the characteristic bird or moth shape, but kind of squared off. It had ribs of stripes of white interspersed with the brown, and when I turned the strawberry over, this thing had two bands of sort of metallic gold crosswise across its neck area. It was kind of strange looking. I looked at it for awhile. It was clearly alive, but not moving or fluttering in the least. Finally I just gently tossed the strawberry back into the strawberry patch.

Anybody know what this might have been?

Thank you, jodi, for your diligence! That looks pretty similar to him, but I don't think his wings were clear. They seemed to be dark brown with white stripes. Probably in the same family of critters though.

i think that mighta been a juvinile version but i bet what you saw was something in the same family more or less .. apparently there are several genus and subspicies of the "strawberry moth"

the "strawberry moth" we call around here is a funky pink pepto bismal (sp? lol) type color its really funky but looks nothing like the example above smiling smiley

Our garden's strawberries are tiny little versions of the things we buy at the store, but inside they're RED and JUICY!
BTW, things are infinitely better now on the home front: Jonathan's son, for reasons unknown, has resumed being friendly and generous to his dad. In fact, he's coming over to see us today, and possibly take his dad and me out to lunch at the local tavern, where I can get a plate of fruit. (YAY!!!!)
Also, curiously, my street music earnings have returned almost back to normal again, and I'm adding a whole slew of gorgeous new bossa nova tunes to my backing track, so that I'm really looking forward to playing again this week.
On the foof front, I'm not juice fasting right now. I finished up a 40 (maybe 42?) day fast and was more than ready to start eating again. I've noticed myself really gravitating for several days to things that are nutrient-dense, so I guess right now I'm 'stoking up' right now. I may juice fast again this summer.

thats great to hear about Jonathans sun smiling smiley does he perchance do this quiet frequently? (run hot and cold then hot again) , im asking out of curiosity because my exhusband used to be this way ... at times he would be the nices guy then for months he would be the coldest S.o.b .. then back again ... after our divorce i turned him onto a cranial-sacral massage specialist that did wonders for his manic mood swings. and when i say mood swings i dont mean the kind that come and go over a day i mean literally he would be jeckyl for months than hyde for months ..

Yes!! That's him exactly. I suspect his wiring got screwed up from his Army Ranger training and life-and-death situations as a soldier, even though he didn't spend very much time at all in combat.

He treats almost everyone else in a similar way, so we're learning to deal with it. Today he was an angel-- all hugs and compliments. He even took our picture with his new i-phone.

Hi Kwan. Glad to hear things are better with Jonathan's son!

Sounds like you had a nice long juice fast. What is the "foof front"?

Must mean "Fun on only fruit"! Or maybe "Full of ovenless food"?

Oh, you meant "food front"? smiling smiley

suncloud--
I'm 'foofy' today. Yes, I meant 'food front.' (Insert little emoticon with reeling, whirling head and glazed eyes here.)

I came home on a quick break while working the 5:30pm - 12am monitor shift. I basically have to check all the performers once an hour, so when things are not hopping (and they're not tonight-- no dramas to deal with whatsoever in the Square) I sometimes hop on the subway and come home for a quick meal or to grab a jacket. So I'm online for a few minutes while munching some grapes, and then I'll head out again to finish the rest of my shift.

Hey all!
Summer's here in Massachusetts.... sort of!... for a few more hours! */* Tomorrow I think we go back to the low 60s again, and I don't mean the hippy days (although that would be nice!).

I'm at home on a quick break again during my Saturday night monitor shift. It drizzled for a few minutes after supper, so a lot of performers immediately packed up and went home, not realizing that the whole evening ahead of them would be beautiful and clear as a bell. No matter-- makes my job easier that there are only 2 performers out tonight.

I haven't had any hunger problems lately, and I'm eating a little less than before; I think it's because summer is here and I'm getting more sunshine. That seems to always make a huge difference.

Had a long week of recording yet another versino of my jazz backtrack tape accompany my flute playing-- we had to record it about 3 times before we finally got it right! First Jonathan used an alternate tape dubber, and the finished product was 1/2 step sharp, so I couldn't use it (or I would have had to sit down and transpose all of my jazz tunes up 1/2 step, which would have taken a week). So we used the Tascam this time, and it matched beautifully. We celebrated, thinking we were all done. Then the next morning I discovered that somehow we'd left 2 of my favorite new Jobim bossa nova tunes out of the mix-- still don't understand how that happened, as we both thought they were on the tape. So last night we did side B over, and finally the whole thing is perfect. I was so glad to go out and play through the whole collection of songs this afternoon in the subway, and prove to myself that our struggles were well worth it.

Yikes, it's 9:58; time to get back to the Square and be a sounnd monitor again!

Finally, I'm feeling ready to try Quantum Eating again-- feeling real good about that. It just hasn't felt feasible until this week. Summer is here (sort of, heh heh, what with all the rain!) and that always helps. Today I was 100% raw except for some little crunchy crouton-like things I put in our salad, and I didn't eat after dinner. Lately I've been having fruit before I go to bed, but I want to stop that habit in its tracks.

You don't mind if I join you, do you? I've been
practicing 'visualization' here lately, and it's been working
quite well. I 'see' everything I eat going through my Body. Some
things I choose not to eat anymore....WY

Hi WY!

>You don't mind if I join you, do you<

No, I'd love it! I could use a little 'buddy motivation.' You know, I didn't lose much weight on the juice fast this time (although it was a great detox), and I keep remembering how the pounds started disappearing during a couple weeks of Quantum Eating. I'm ready to give it another try. I like Q.E. because it's a natural way to teach yourself to practice calorie restriction and careful eating.

That sounds really wonderful. I've dabbled in it, but would like to apply myself to it more diligently. We'll stay in touch.

Hi everybody!

I haven't been on the board much lately-- I discovered Facebook and those of you who are on FB know how much fun and how addictive that can be!

I've been having a great summer. Haven't been doing anything extraordinary in terms of cleanses or regimens, but I now feel ready to go liquidarian for the rest of whatever is left of the hot weather, starting today. Today we're going to the farmer's market I recently discovered in Boston (good food cheap!!) and I'm going to buy tons of juicing oranges -- they're 10 for $1 there. Will also get some vegies like carrots, cukes, parsley, celery + apples to juice together -- that particular combination is really good for the joints, which is great, since I walk so much on my job, sometimes 10-15 miles a day when the Square is hoppin' with lots of performers.

Jonathan and I have one more camping trip coming up, starting Sept. 2. I'll probably do a lemonade fast + water with some barley grass powder in it while we are there. Camping is always a bit of a problem in terms of juice fasting, because you can't use a juicer and juice doesn't keep. So I take bottled lemon juice and agave nectar and green powder, and that's about it. Or I drink spring water and take it easy.

I hope everyone's having a great summer, thriving and happy!

Hi Suncloud!
So far so good-- had a wonderful, super-hot, humid day today-- the kind of day where juice and smoothies are all you can even THINK of wanting. I came home from my monitoring work for a quick break-- I just finished an orange/pineapple/banana smoothie-- and now I'm going back out to work till midnight, fortified with all that fruit nutrition.

Had fun again at Haymarket in Boston buying super-cheap produce for my juicing Saturday. I bought 4 pineapples for $3, 4 qts of strawberries for $2, 60 juicing oranges for $6 (in Cambridge that would have been... let's see... yes, $25 even at the Co-op!), 6 kiwis for 50 cents, 18 apples for $3, 4 bunches of celery for $4, a huge piece of ginger for 75 cents.... a whole bunch of great stuff, all for a song. ;-) Tonight I feel somewhat tempted to eat something solid, but I'm going to tough it out and just have another drink if I continue to feel like eating. I've already made things ridiculously easy by allowing myself to include smoothies in my regimen for awhile, so I should be able to succeed. Actually, I'm not hungry, I realize; I'm just feeling a slight lack of energy while I transition into juicing. Realizing this makes it even easier for me to avoid falling into eating. Maybe I'll just take it easy and go to bed early instead.
