Hello world!
Posted by: jes8098 ()
Date: April 19, 2007 12:53AM

I am new to this whole world of thinking! But I must say I am quite excited. I have always tried to eat what I considered a balanced diet, but have always longed for sweets. I am overweight, my knees and ankles are killing me and I have no ambition or energy. I guess I'm your normal case of wrong choices! I love my husband and I love my kids....I want to be healthy and I want them to be healthy.

We have just started doing smoothies with the kids, and even my die hard meat fanatic husband has taken a few sips. But hey...that's a few sips in the right direction! smiling smiley We like to eat our fruits and veggies, and our palates are definetely use to the preservatives, chemicals and sweeteners that have attacked our food industry. I hope to keep moving in the right direction. The move might be gradual, but you have to start somewhere!

My goals are to find people to quide me and to give me ideas of how to be creative when switching over to more of a raw vegan diet. I hope for my families well being by incorporating more fruits and vegetables into their diet, and I want to get my life into shape. My attitude, my body, and quite frankly my soul could use an awakening!

So, here goes our journey. Into the world with an open mind and an open heart. I surrender myself to you...

Hello there....welcome to the forum and congrats on going raw and transforming your life and the lives of your loved ones!!!! you are doing wonderful by incorporating smoothis into your routine....add more fruits in the morning too..like a fruit bowl for breakfast!! yumm...and after school make fruit or veggie platters for snack with a raw avo dip or seed dip...or raw hummus!!! there are so many ways to incorporate raw things into the diet and so many fun things....let the kids make stuff for themselves!!! that always helps get them more into it as well...when they are able to prepare fun things for themselves and friends!!!

the raw journey is an amazing one and one that i am surey ou will be happy and healthy on!!! but the best tip i think is improve your life and lead by example!!!
good luck and we are all here for you

Thank you so much! I am willing to try anything. My heart has been telling me this is the route I am meant to take for a while now. We have always enjoyed our fruits and vegetables. I have to be honest though, my childhood wasn't one that introduced too many greens! We were a poor family growing up...so lots of cheap, overly processed foods. I had never even heard of some of the produce that my smoothies had listed! We tried one yesterday yesterday that had blueberries, banana, parsley, and leek in it. I went to the grocery store with the kids and had to ask what the parsley and the leeks were! smiling smiley hehheee! We came home and it was wonderfully refreshing! My son Jonathan is 5, and my daughter Shian is almost 2, and they LOVED it! Even more exciting...later that day we made chocolate pudding out of advocados...I had never ate an advocado! Oh my, what have we been missing!!!!!

I have noticed something quite strange. Today is day 3 and I'm starting it off with some water, but just a little recap on yesterday...

Yesterday I had for breakfast a whole grain english muffin with some oranges, water

10 a.m. the green smoothie with blueberries, banana, parsley, and leeks...

noon I had carrot and ginger soup...YUMMY, with soy milk, ants on the log (celery, peanut butter, raisens)

supper, more carrot and ginger soup, oranges and the chocolate pudding for desert (advocados, cocoa, and maple syrup).

After yesterday, I started to notice my skin is looking a little better. I think I've dropped a few pounds, but I have had a little bit more energy. Normally I need like 8 hours of sleep, and last night I only got about 4. I was so wide eyed I just tossed and turned. I'm not sure, but maybe it was because of the pudding for dessert yesterday! smiling smiley

But even more important. My daughter Shian has been fighting diarhea for the past 5 months now, and we're even taking her to a "specialist" to try and figure out what the heck is going on. We hadn't received any answers from our regular docter and just as many from the specialist! She's actually the reason we been pushed to do the smoothies. I am terrified that she isn't getting her nutrients. Whole food just passes through her. I am so proud to say...I think it is working! She had her first itty bitty solid @#$%& in 5 months! I know...way too much information for strangers...but you just don't understand how exciting this is for me. She has had up to 11 dirty dities in one day.

If this is a glimpse of raw...then I know I am doing the right thing. I know need to become familiar with the foods that are available and try to be creative. I am not sure what all to mix or what even tastes good. It is strictly trial and error! But, if anyone has any suggestions we're open to them!

I only have a blender...no food dehydrater. If later on down the road we need to get one...I will. Right now we're just trying to mix simple recipes together to encourage this way of life.

I am so happy. Thanks for posting earthangel. You're a doll....

You are doing the right thing and that's incredible news about your daughter!

IMO the dehydratror has helped by offering variety and "crunch" when I needed it. (I've been at this for 6 months). Better to eat flaxseed crackers than bread. Besides I use it to make dog "crackers" and so I know whats in them and there's going to be way more nutrtion in them than store bought dog biscuits.

Some call dehydrated stuff "junk" food, but again far better than store bought and fresher though it's not a necessity. Watch the fat content of some recipes.

Hello earthangel and benetgirl! I haven't purchased any books yet. I've been relying soley on the internet as my overwhelming resource! We live in northern Illinois so I don't think I'll be able to borrow any...

We had mostly living foods today...and boy let me tell you...talk about a migraine and grumpy. I am tired and sick feeling. I'm guessing this is my bodies way of telling me I've been doing something wrong for a while. It's sad that our nation is so profit oriented that it allows us to become addicted to things that are just not good for us. It's so hard. I have been on "normal" food for so long that I am terribly worried about how long it will take before my body doesn't reject to good living food! Detox symptoms are not fun, but I'm sure my body agrees that poisons and chemicals aren't fun either!

I'm so excited, I joined a raw vegan meetup group and I will be attending this next weekend. I hope they can help me in person! I think I'm gonna need all the help I can get!

As for a log today...

This morning we had an english muffin, orange, water

am snack: smoothie with apple, pear, leek, celery and water...yummy

lunch: carrot ang ginger soup, water

supper: spinach, mushroom and garlic pizza, water.

I had 2 slices of pizza though so not as good...but overall, it's slowly getting better.

I have been just trying to use as much common sense as I can when it comes to food choices. I know personally speaking my will power isn't as strong as alot of other people's may be, so I'm trying to just listen to my body and respond accordingly. I think it knows me better than anyone! winking smiley I hope so anyway! hehehe!

Sorry it has been a while since I've last posted. We were down south clearing land. It was difficult to stick with alot of fruits and veggies while we were gone...my mommy's homecooked meals are almost an emotional/physical attachment! I can honestly say that it was the hardest to resist there where I grew up on the worst kind of food. Why is that!!! It has to be something psychological!

My husband is still convinced I'm killing him. If he eats any kinds of veggies or fruits he has MAJOR gas and many trips to the bathroom... I think his body is rejecting it because of the regimend it has become accustomed to.

My body has been acting differently as well. I have more energy, but I have been irritible and I am now starting to get what looks like a water blister on my skin in spots. I don't really know what that means. Any ideas anyone???

okay...recap for today

am: salad bowl...bananas, oranges, apples, grn grapes with soy milk
I had some hazelnut coffee this morning early

lunch: steamed mixed veggies with yellow rice. fruit smoothie: 4 kiwi,
1 banana, and 3 stalks of celery with a cup of water. the smoothie wasn't
too big of a hit...one of the kiwi wasn't quite ripe so it had a little bit
of a bite!

supper: i had more of the smoothie, and some soymilk.

I'm trying to make wiser choices, but with a family of 4 going different directions...it's difficult... but..make the most of what you've got.

If anyone has any simple, yet tasty raw recipes, I would love to get some from you. I'm not that creative and don't know what foods taste good with others. We are open to trying anything! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks...

Hi Jes & welcome. Congratulations on all youe decisions, steps & progress. I think you are doing great!

I've been doing this only for a couple months and in that time have seen incredible benefits including losing 15 lbs( and I wasn't overweight to begin with), gaining super energy, incredibly soft skin, I no longer have body odor... just t name a few. I look and feel SOOO much better.

One thing that has really helped is this site and all the support I have gotten. I recommend visiting as many raw sites and finding recipes and support. Also I recommend buying e-books and books and subscribing to a raw vegan podcast. All those things have helped me tremendously during my transition.

Oh! Also doing a Google search of raw vegan before & afters was very inspiring & informative.

That's my 2 cents for now. All the very best... Inaia

hey there glad to see you back yay!!!...hey don't worry your hubby's body is rejecting the foods..it is loving them and detoxing his body some..you will get gas and little upset tummy at first from the increase in fiber too but it is good for him!! tell him he is doing good haha...keep up your awesome work too!!! sorry it was s truggle to go down south...but you are right back keeping on it now so good for yoU!!!

hmm some raw receipes like zucchini pasta is a big hit always simple....just take some organic zucchini and throw in the saladacco..but if you don't have one just use a peeler and make long thin strips...then in a food processor or blender...put some tomatoes...basil....dash of olive oil if you want...some soaked sun dried tomatoes (optional)....1/2 red pepper....some rosemary and oregano...blend up and pour over the zucchini it is marvelous...you can also follow someone's receipe whihc tells exacts but i just throw that stuff in a blender haha...it is sooo yummy...i don't put olive oil or sundried tomatoes but that usually addds more of a cooked taste for hubby and family smiling smiley...good luck

i hope that works for ya!!!!

if there is anything you want to make raw from cooked let me know i might have the receipe here somewher haha i have a ton of books...

i like wraps..they are simple and easy...grate up some veggies ...buy a big leaf lettuce or khale or chard or collards...and wrap up the veggies and whatever else....some raw sauerkraut...grape tomates....avo's anything roll it up and enjoy...you can also throw some soaked seeds in the processor and make a filling too!!!!
be creative and just start throwing things together that is what i do..last night i came up with a receipe for my mom for raw chocolate frosting tastes JUST like the betty crocker homemade frosting int he can!!!
take care and good luck!! remember to have lots of fun while doing this too!!

okay...i know it's been a few days since I've posted. We took our daughter to the "specialist" to read the results back from her test. He tells us she's perfectly normal but couldn't explain why adding more of the raw food into her diet was working. He actually told me that I was doing wrong by her by trying to go raw. He told me she will not receive enough protein or folic acid. HELP! I don't know what I'm doing here. I just want to make sure she's healthy. Am I doing the right thing here?

Any way...sorry...a ranting concerned mother needs to relax! so...here's what we ate yesterday

am: organic oatmeal with raspberries, and banana; rice milk

lunch: oranges, grapes, strawberries, broccoli with a little bit of ranch; water

supper: cooked potatoes and carrots, cornbread muffin (we went to a friends house and she didn't have anything raw! so we ate the best we could) MY son and husband had meat as well...

today: 2 may 07

am: banana, rice milk

snack: cheddar crackers, water

lunch: strawberries, grapes, celery, carrots, organic raisens, tater tots; water

snack: advocado chocolate pudding

supper: left over tater tots, and the kids ate 1 slice of pizza, water

As a personal note: Shian lost about half a pound in 2 weeks. The docter was concerned and I informed him that we had literally dropped ALOT of the fat out of her diet and I expected her to lose some weight. I was happy it was that little. I still try to keep the variety and hope that she stays healthy. I started both the kids on an Acidopholis supplement to help build up their intestinal flora...(I didn't breastfeed and I'm hoping this will help!)

A week and a half ago I weight 221 lbs. Today I weighed in at 212. I am so happy. I have had alot more energy and I used to have a big problem with my knees hurting me after being on them for very long. This has not happened since cutting out the bread and really watching the processed sugar. I'm so happy! I was literally jumping up and down yesterday! This is so exciting! I feel so much more alive, my daughters feeling so much better...and my sons dark circles under his eyes have gotten lighter! yippie!!!!!

hey there hun...don't worry they will probably say it is bad...well most of them do....and nutrionists will too..my mom was telling a nutrionist at the hospital about me trying it out and the lady knows me and knows my struggles and what i have done and been through she told her it was working and that i had even lowered my insulin intake and she was freaking out she was getting really upset and heated my mom said she had to wlak away....so maybe you should look for a natropathic dr....i am sure that would be better suited cuz he would help you and look from all sides and really give you a better idea!! good luck hun......you are doing great and doing wonderful things for your children!!

Thanks Earthangel!

I have made up my mind that as long as it is working I'm going to stick with it...and if a time comes that it doesn't then we'll trying something else. I have to be versatile and just be well informed! It helps when I have time to calm down and keep my thoughts grounded.

Okay, to the diary.

This morning: I wasn't really all that hungry so I drank some soymilk; later had a glass of water...

lunch: I ate strawberries, grapes, celery, carrots, green olives, and for desert we had an advocado/cocoa pudding; small water

supper: rice with steamed mixed veggies, a few orange slices, and a banana

It was wierd, last night and even today I was really craving olives for some reason...maybe it's the salt or just the bite the green ones have...

anyway...my husbands bday was today. I felt bad since i didn't really make him anything special...(he loves rice crispie treats...so we're going to make him some tomorrow...unless someone has any advice for a raw alternative! or some type of sweet dessert!!!)

Date Nut Torte

base of torto:
2 cups raisin
2 cups walnuts
in food processor combine raisins and walnuts and blend until well blended and moist....(takes a few minutes and wills tart to form a ball..make sure rasins turn fudgy and not grainy....
mold onto a plate in a round circle about 1 1/2 inches thick

frosting....
1 cup dates (pitted and soaked)
1/2 lemon Juiced
in food processor combine the two and process till smooth and creamy...the on top of the torte....

refrigerate for a few hours to make it firm and easier to slice!!

here are the fudge balls
2 cups dates soaked and pitted
2 cups almond butter
1/2 cup of carob powder

blend the dated to a smooth paste in food processor....add remaining ingredients until smooth....remove and form into balls.....enjoy!!!

2 cups walnuts
1/4 cup of dates pitted and soaked
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon

add the rest of ingredients and blend till creamy....form into balls or a big block and keep in fridge!!!

hmm here are some almond butter balls
1/2 cup almond butter
1/2 cup of sunflower seeds
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup of honey

grind sunflower seeds till fine...place in a bowl with other ingredients and mix well...form into balls!!!!

couldn't find an alternatie to rice krispies..but try this
it will be nuttier but might be just as good
2 cups raw cashews.....
1/2 cup raw dates
1/2 cup agave....
chop raw cashews into pieces in a food processor on chop..don't blend too fine or small..jsut so it is in pieces......
set aside...blend raw dates in food processor and add both the creamy mix of dates and agave to the cashews...place into square pan....place in fridge for a few hours to harden...it will look like them and taste sticky and similar!! good luck hun

Well! I need to update. The weather has been so lovely here that there was no way I was sitting in front of a computer! Dont worry though..I'm keeping a jot of everything in a little journal!

Okay,

5/4
210.5 lbs
breakfast: vanilla soymilk, water...wasn't hungry...just really thirsty.
later: green tea with honey
lunch: white castles: chicken breast sandwich, fish sandwich, fries with ketchup and med. pop...Yes, I know BIG BAD MEAL. Shawn wanted to eat here though for his bday with his all meat eating family!

Supper: still eating out with family...went to Culvers: I got mashed potatoes with gravey, green beans, and coleslaw with small pop.

This was a tough day...

5/5
213 lbs...wow...definetely from yesterday!

breakfast: water, 2 kiwi
lunch: celery, carrots, strawberries, canteloupe...more water. we went yard selling in a HUGE fancy subdivision that is almost a 10 miles radius! Talk about some great deals though...anyway!

supper: met the family at Golden Corral...ate from salad bar...
iceburg lettuce, spinach, carrots, dried cranberries, mushrooms, broccoli, green bell pepper, a little bit of white cheese...ranch dressing, sunflower seeds. 1 1/2 rolls with honey butter. Also had fried jumbo shrimp with unsweetened ice tea with lemon. yes..i ate alot...i was so hungry from earlier.

5/6
212 lbs

breakfast: what was left of my daughters organic oatmeal with apple slices and honey (only a few bites left...she liked it alot!)

snack: banana, and a glass of cocoa

lunch: 2 biscuits with gravy, 2 slices of bacon few bites of egg and orange juice (we weren't at home...she had nothing remotely fresh except for orange juice)

supper: gyro minus the pita with fries, and sm drink

we rode bikes today for about an hour. If I do good one day...it seems like I go overboard with cravings the next. AAAHHH!!! What a challenge. Okay...my goal is to do 2 meals good and then relax on the 3rd. I don't mind being 100%, so I'm not going to beat myself up over it...but I would like more of it to be.

okay...5/7
213.5 lbs

banana, strawberries, water

dates, soymilk...oh my goodness...medjool...wow...I would love to dry these fresh...the kind I had were sun dried...but I can only imagine how good they would be fresh! the best "candy" snack ever! A big Kick with the rest of the family as well! yippie!

uh...lunch: romaine lettuce, raspberries, almond slices with rasp. balsamic vinegar mixed with some honey...strawberries, green pepper slices, broccoli and carrots with ranch...and water

gyro with fries/ketchup

rode bikes more today and played at the park. We're riding bikes more here lately because we picked up one of those pull behind 2 seat carriers for Shian to sit in! It's heaven sent! She doesn't know how to ride and my bike has an independent suspension on it so a carrier wouldn't work and she has outgrown the strap on kind...so this new one has opened up a whole new world for her eyes to see! I am so happy!

today!

5/8
211.5 lbs

banana, strawberry shortcake: almonds, dates, honey make dough and topped with strawberries...very yummy! water

I won't be posting for a while...we're going out of town tomorrow and won't get back until monday...my sister is getting married! hip hip hooray! don't worry though...I'm jotting down everything no matter how good or how bad! This weekend is going to be a challenge since no one in my family eat much of raw food...so have to hit the grocery store! worst yet...the reception is a hog roast. I love my family to death, but it is very hard doing something completely different from everyone you know. I feel so isolated sometimes but I know that in my heart I'm making the right choice to incorporate more good food into our lives. i'm young and dumb, but learning on the way! smiling smiley

love, light, and smiles!

Hey Jes. smiling smiley Doctors truly don't know ANYTHING about nutrition. They don't study it! They know drugs and symptoms and have no idea how to make people healthy. They know how to treat symptoms while leaving the cause intact to create lots more chaos in a body that would be healthy if treated with whole foods.

I was vegan for 18 yrs when I started this raw journey and I feel better than ever in my life! I lost 15 lbs (7 kilos) in 1 1/2 months. My energy level is amazing, my thoughts are clear, I feel strong, my skin is soft & clear & rejuvenated, I no longer have body odor, my sinuses cleared up and my voice is strong & clear. I feel better than ever. People feel THREATENED by my diet and sometimes feel the need to get heated or attack or poke at me because of my diet- but WHATEVER. It scares them because it challenges all the "knowledge" they are emotionally attached to and invested in. I just don't discuss it with them. I don't need anyone's permission to make choices for myself. They can keep doing what they're doing and keep getting those results. I'm keeping raw- thank you very much. Nothing speaks more clearly than one's own experience.

It's good to be open and just try things. You seem to be very open & you are recording your process. You're doing well. Anyway, I hope all is going well with you these days and I hope this helps in some way. smiling smiley

PS
sorry to repeat some things from the previous post. It's been a while since I've posted here.

Hello everyone!

Much to my surprise I haven't gained any more weight...and I feel better, despite my NOT to goal diet. I really want to do atleast 2 meals raw or atleast mostly fruits and veggies (raw or steamed). I'm sure for most of you out there that is easy, but my background is a major emphasis on meat and pasta and pop...and BREAD! My knees and ankles used to kill me, but now that I have literally, and I do mean literally almost comletely diminished my bread and pop intake...wow! I feel good. My joints don't hurt as much. Yes...your thinking...well...she still has lots of pop through the day...oh no....I used to drink two 2 liters of pop a DAY! I hardly ever drank water. I know I sound like I'm only half assing it...but I really have come along way! I feel good. I know to the rest of you it sounds like I'm not doing so hot...but I really am proud of myself. Granted...it's just the beginning, but I woke up in a good mood and I wanted to share. Overly excited about my sis getting married...and just ate my babana for breakfast so I'm feeling GREAT!

Dearest Earthangel...I wasn't able to duplicate any of the recipes...YET...I am ordering dates from California. We don't have any fresh around here....I checked everywhere! There were some dried ones I found at the grocery store...so can I soak those or no? I wasn't sure if raw or dried made a difference when soaking them. But, yes...the date should arrive soon! I'm so excited to try some of your recipes. The nut butter...I have to buy at a health food store...but they are 45 min away...so not gonna make a special trip just for that...but if that way I am going to buy some!

Dearest Inaia...you are so wonderful! I am an extremely shy 26 year old. I spend most of my time at home. I am very trusting and my husband feels bad since I can easily be taken advantage of. Its hard to know who to believe or what to believe. I question myself all the time. You have such a confidence about you that is truly amazing. You keep me focused and give me strength even in the most indirect ways...and that goes for earthangel as well. Thank you for being my support. I really appreciate it!

I will always be honest with you and more importantly myself. I have nothing to hide...I hope that this will allow me to get good sound advice and help me on my path. I have a goal and I don't care how long it takes me to get there, but I will strive for it everyday. One day at a time.

Thanks girls...I've got to go pack! Hubby is sitting here waiting! smiling smiley

Dear Jes. You are doing wonderfully well and you SHOULD be proud of yourself. Keep up the good work and keep going @ your own pace. It's fabulous that you feel better. This is all part of your journey. One of the benefits I've gotten from a raw food lifestyle is that I am much more clear-headed and my thoughts are much more focused. You will see you will begin to trust yourself more and feeling more and more comfortable with the decisions you make and with your interactions with others. I have noticed a very marked difference since I went raw. I had always been bold & confident but I had gotten to a point where I was shy and second guessing myself and I felt shy and inappropriate many times but that's all gone away and I feel strong and clear headed again Just keep up the good work, ok? Your persistence and dedication and your willingness to listen to yourself and no one else is a WONDERFUL thing. We will be here through your journey, ok? All the very best... Inaia
