Day 22

Weight: 115.4
BMI: 19.2
Fasting Glucose: 4.3 mmol/L

I had a craving for fats. Usually I don't have cravings for fat at all. I didn't follow it at dinner because I couldn't seen to fit coconut into the smoothie, it wouldn't taste good. So I just used flaxseeds.

I don't seem to care as much these days. I'm very lazy. I don't feel doing the things I usually do. I spent the day in bed watching movies.

Breakfast: Smoothie (Collards, celery, 3 radish, blackberries, pineapple, 1/2 avocado)
Snack: 6 large oranges, 2 plums, 2 apples
Dinner: Smoothie (Collards, kale, 2 beets, purple grapes, flaxseeds)

Day 23

Weight: 117.2
BMI: 19.5
Fasting Glucose: 5.9 mmol/L (highest it's been)

I had a 1/2 coconut, cucumber, and 2 apples before I went to sleep. Have a pain in my chest area. It's not my chest though. Had sleep in my eyes today. I suspect this was from my midnight snack because it was the only change I've made since.

Breakfast: Smoothie (Swiss chard, beet, beansprouts, strawberries, blackberries, hempseeds)
Snack: 3 plums
Snack: 3 apples
Snack: 2 bananas
Dinner: Smoothie (Swiss chard, strawberries, 2 oranges, 1/2 avocado + pit) * Don't make - Didn't taste good *

I have a strange feeling in my throat. It has me concerned. Didn't feel well today; headache, and unease. Wasn't as hungry today.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 24

Weight: 117.2
Fasting Glucose: 5.6 mmol/L

I had a small acne breakout early in the day. Didn't get much sleep for the past few days so it's really catching up to me at work. I'm hoping my fasting glucose isn't so high in the morning. It's been quite high these days. My energy level has improved. That's a good thing.

Breakfast: Smoothie (Kale, beet, beansprouts, darkpurple grapes, blueberries, hempseeds)
Snack: 3 plums
Snack: 3 apples
Snack: 2 bananas
Dinner: Smoothie (Kale, Swiss Chard, cilantro, blueberries, darkpurple grapes, hempseeds)
Snack: Large papaya

Day 25

Weight: 116.8
BMI: 19.4
Fasting Glucose: 4.6 mmol/L

A little bit of sleep in my eyes this morning. Acne the same.

I fasted today because I wasn't hungry in the morning and my instinct told me that a fast would be good for the body... I didn't feel that hungry today and my energy level was the same. I'm hoping that my fasting glucose goes down. That concerns me.

Fasted today.

Day 26

Weight: 113.2
BMI: 18.8
Fasting Glucose: 4.2 mmol/L

This is likely the lowest weight I've been for about 15 years or so. I could not reach this weight trying my absolute hardest for one year on a omnivore diet. Not even on a vegan diet. Only as a raw vegan could I so easily do this. I am NOT hungry. Infact, I follow all my instincts involved with eating. I don't like the feeling of a hungry empty stomach. I'm wondering what might happen to my weight in another month?

Today I broke the short fast. I almost wanted to go another day, but I thought I'd eat so I went with my tummy. I didn't feel sick in the morning so that was a plus.

I noticed I had verticle ridges in my nails. They are more defined then ever. I'll be searching to find out what nutrient they require. My skin around my cuticles is in excellent health. I'm thinking about possibly trying fruit for breakfast and seeing what happens. I hear that most raw foodists start the day with fruit.

Breakfast: Smoothie (Kale, beansprouts, beet, blackberries, strawberries)
Snack: 1/2 papaya
Snack: 1/2 papaya
Snack: 4 apples
Snack: 4 peaches
Snack: 1/2 coconut

My protein intake seemed quite low today. I was breaking the fast, so that's why I didn't have it in the morning.

Day 27

Weight: 113.8
BMI: 18.9
Fasting Glucose: 4.5 mmol/L

The honeydew melon was an AWESOME breakfast! I kept its seeds in the fridge to use in my dinner smoothie. Acne a little worse; bumpy on forehead.

Breakfast: Honeydew Melon
Snack: 3 bananas
Snack: 2 large oranges
Snack: 4 peaches
Snack: Cantaloupe
Dinner: Green Smoothie (Collards, Cilantro, Roman Lettuce, 2 radish, 1/2 cup cantaloupe & honeydew melon seeds, flax seeds) * just for nutrition - do not make for taste *
Snack: 4 cups blackberries

Day 28

Weight: 114.4
BMI: 19.0
Fasting Glucose: 5.1 mmol/L
Pushups: 40

Acne coming back. Nails starting to peel. I feel like I'm falling apart. I don't think this is detox, just improper diet.

Breakfast: Honeydew Melon *
Snack: 4 large oranges
Snack: 3 bananas
Dinner: Thick Green Smoothie (Collards, Cilantro, Swiss Chard, 1/2 cup cantaloupe & honeydew melon seeds, flax seeds) * just for nutrition - do not make for taste *

* Kept seeds in the fridge in a sealed container

I'm going to start eating my original raw foods as soon as I get a chance to buy them. Cucumbers, avocado's, celery and kale, seemed to help me out.

Day 30

Weight: 116.8
BMI: 19.4
Fasting Glucose: 4.9 mmol/L

No sleep in eyes. Hands peeling slightly. I think because I've reduced my fat intake. I'll be getting avocados soon. It seems I'm not eating them fast enough and they are going rotten before I get to them.

I've been having a craving for orange foods like carrots, pumpkin, and peppers. I'll be getting some carrots tomorrow. I still LOVE the morning honeydew melon! Keeps me full just as much as a smoothie would.

Breakfast: Honeydew Melon
Snack: 2 large apples
Snack: 4 plums
Snack: 2 oranges
Dinner: Smoothie (Collards, Cilantro, Swiss Chard, 2 vine tomatoes, 1/2 cup honeydew melon seeds, flax seeds) * just for nutrition - do not make for taste *

I'm going to keep eating raw. I love it. I also have faith I'll be able to get all the nutrients I require quite easily. It just takes a little time. winking smiley

Day 41

Weight: 113.4
BMI: 18.9
Fasting Glucose: 4.6 mmol/L
Fasting Glucose (Bi-Monthly): 4.8 mmol/L
Fasting Glucose (Monthly): 4.9 mmol/L

I haven’t posted in a while. I’d thought I’d give an update.

My energy levels are increasing and I no longer feel lethargic anymore. My weight also is down and it looks like it might have stabilized at an all time low.

Also fasting glucose has dropped, which is a good thing. I was quite concerned about it. My fruit intake level has also dropped which might be the reason why.

I still have a tiny bit of peeling on the cuticles of my nails. I bought coconut oil see if it would help. Doubt it.

I’m going to try to eat the way I was before. I noticed that I had the best results like that. So I’ll try for lots of dark leafy greens and skin helping foods like cucumber, avocado, carrots…

Breakfast: Smoothie (Baby green spinach, cucumber, celery, 3 radish, tomato, ½ avocado)
Snack: Honeydew melon
Snack: 3 large grapefruit
Snack: Salad (Kale, baby green spinach, celery, cucumber, ½ coconut), 3 apples (hour later)
Snack: 4 grapefruit

sounds like you are doing well on your raw journey. I read your whole journel and it was enspireing. Thank-you for shareing. I understand about eating only when hungry I think it is very important to listen to our body's needs as well. For some reason I found myself eating less and less and not really having much problem with the lack of calories. I am over weight though and thought that was because my body was taking from the reserve. Raw food diet is the best by far, is'nt it?
Keep up the great work

Day 42

Weight: 112.6
BMI: 18.6
Fasting Glucose: 4.8 mmol/L

Breakfast: Honeydew melon
Lunch: Salad (Kale, cucumber, tomato, carrot) + Blended Salad Dip (Cucumber, tomato, carrot, kale)
Snack: 10 clementines, 2 bananas
Snack: Apple, pear, clementine
Snack: Smoothie (Collards, cucumber, celery, 3 radish, carrot, honeydew melon seeds + 1 tbsp hempseeds*)

* I usually have much less hempseeds. Tonight I was craving protein.

Pam,

Thanks for reading Pam. smiling smiley

As far as body reserves and other claims go, I'd rather just forget about all that and see out how I feel for myself.

There's been a few times where I just felt like not eating, so I just fasted. Then at night I was hungry, so I ate. I'll not deny my body, and I'll not force food upon it, so if you feel like eating less then that might be what's best for you at the time. And remember that if you feel hungry, it might be best to eat. I wouldn't deny myself to try to shed lbs.

Day 59

It's been a while since I've posted. Today I noticed something revolutionary. My skin is the best it's ever been. So smooth and flat. It was quite well for the last few days as well. Someone even commented.

I noticed that I've been craving papayas, and so I went with it.

Here's what I ate:

Breakfast: Papaya
Snack: V8 Smoothie (3 tomatoes, 1/2 cup spinach, 1/4 kale, carrot, parsley, avocado + pit, 4 garlic cloves, 2 red hot chili peppers)
Snack: 2 small apples
Snack: Papaya
Dinner: V8 Smoothie (3 tomatoes, 1/2 cup spinach, 1/4 kale, carrot, parsley, avocado + pit, 4 garlic cloves, 2 red hot chili peppers)
Snack: Papaya
Snack: Papaya + Black Grapes

The V8 Smoothie tastes great and I look forward to drinking it. The only thing I noticed that I added to this (that might have helped my acne condition) was garlic, tomatoes, and red hot chili peppers. I also didn't eat many apples.

This smoothie seems to really wake the body up. I'll be eating like this for a while and see what happens. Perhaps it's the garlics anti-bacterial properties that are helping with my acne?

Anyways, I'm liking the benefits of raw and I'll continue to stay raw so long as I continue to see it benefitting me.

Keep up the great work! And please let us know how it works for you. I've found your posts to be very inspiring. I also worry about calories and not eating enough, but your right why force yourself to eat if your not hungry?

Day 63,

Weight: 114.8
BMI: 19.1
Fasting Glucose: 4.8 mmol/l
Bi-Monthy Fasting Glucose: 4.8
Monthy Fasting Glucose: 4.8
Body temp: 97.5

I'm not feeling as lathargic as I was before. My skin now has a yellow/orange tint to it from eating too many carrots. It feels super smooth. Even my hands touching themselves feels smooth. Almost as if I had used hand cream, but not oil/wet in any way.

I did a short fast today because my body simply didn't feel like eating. I have trust in my body so I didn't eat. No use forcing it. I felt hungry at 8:00pm so I started eating. It's that simple.

Snack: Cantalope

I posted early and will add the rest shortly.

I've been in touch with my natural instincts. I don't rely on numbers, advice from others, traditions, science... Numbers, studies/statistics, and culture are nothing compared to the innate intellingence of this body. I let my body be my guide. I eat as much as I want, whenever I want. Rarely do I drink water.

My skin has cleared very well. I don't get whiteheads anymore. I only get small bumps on my forehead. The ance on my chest has cleared. This is quite amazing since I've head chest acne for a long time, and it's kinda embarrassing.

Lizard,

I'm taking in the calories my body asks for. The amount of food I take in is huge. It's a wonder I could fit all that inside me, lol.

I'm glad you find the posts inspiring. I recommend you find what way works for you. Once I stopped thinking about fat and protein... and just ate what my body asked for it became fun, not a task. I'm gonna die someday no matter what I eat, and I'm really not sure if this way of eating will extend or decrease my life. The fact is that we enjoy this life, even if that means not being raw. I made that promise to myself.

Also, for anyone that might be intested. Please think for yourself when you hear people talking about detox, symptoms, protein, calories,... Many of these people are just talking, and just like a tape recorder, they are repeating the words of others. I've been there to. So many people into raw food want to believe so much in this they'll believe much of what they read. I'm not sure what to believe, and I don't wanna hear any more about it. I simply don't care about these figures and facts. I'll eat what my mind tells me to, and be done with it.

Also, the big thing about health. People are making such a big deal about health that it sounds like it would be taking up much of their day. I'm not doing this for health, I'm doing this because it's what my body asks me to do. Like if I had to pee. I don't pee because it would hurt me if I didn't go, and I don't pee to expell waste. I pee simply because my body tells me to and I feel good afterwards.

Making such a complex thing over such a simple issue.

It's as simple as:

I crave the apple. I eat the apple.

I don't question it and wonder if I should combine the apple with celery, or if I should blend it or have some blueberries with it for antioxidants. My taste buds tell me this. I don't restrict myself to two apples, or wait by the clock. I eat what I want when I want.

And so that's a different perspective. A somewhat free and highly contraversial way to look upon things, especially when society thinks so much differently. I don't think what I say is correct or incorrect. It's just what I'm doing for now. smiling smiley

Day 69,

Weight: 111.2 (lowest since I've posted)
BMI: 18.5
Bi-Monthy Fasting Glucose: 4.9
Monthy Fasting Glucose: 4.9
Body temp: 98.5 (my body is adjusting to the new food)

Wide Grip Pushups: 44 (chest to ground)
Close Grip Pushups: 26 (done after the wide grip)
One Arm Curl: 20 x 14
One Arm Bent Over Row: 20 x 110
One Arm Bent Over Row: 25 x 30
Crunches: 67

I'm gaining some ground again in the workout area. I've been taking 10 minute breaks and only doing one exercise per day.

I've been doing amazing. I haven't posted because I haven't felt the desire to post. I'm just eating what my body tells me to eat, and it's changing every day.

My skin is in great condition - I haven't had a whitehead in at least a week or more. The acne on my chest is almost completely gone. There is NO itching when eating apples and oranges, which used to make me break out.

I've been using lip balm for about 10 years? I've became so dependant on it, and each year I try to go without in when the warm weather comes and I have went back to it. I'm going to try being without it again. It's already been 2 days with any lip balm - Woohoo!

I'm liking the look of skin on my hands and arms. It looks more 'fresh' then it did before.

Here are some of the sample meals I've been eating:

Breakfast/Snack: Apples, oranges, honeydew melon, papaya, kiwi, grapes, plums (big appitite for plums!), cantalope, pears, blackberries, cucumber, celery, carrots, mango...

The smoothies have been the same because I'm addicted to it:

V8 Smoothie (Tomatoes, spinach/collards/kale, parsley, radish, onion, garlic, red hot jalapino pepper, whole avocado + pit, carrot + top, seeds from left-over melons)

When I drink that smoothie it's like my whole body is being nurished. My veins pump up from the garlic/onions/hot peppers and I get this surging feeling. The best thing I like about the V8 Smoothie is that there's no fruit in it so I can super-pack it with veggies. smiling smiley The hot peppers stop me from taking it down too fast, a trick I learned from David Wolfe, only he uses cayenne pepper. I refuse to use any spice. It's either the whole plant or none. I don't need celery seed, salt, or cayenne when I can get it from celery and peppers. And it's fresh. Just my take on it.

I'll be posting now and then.

I just wanted to let you know, that I read your journal about two weeks ago front to back and found it very inspiring.I was vegetarian for a few of years, then vegan and recently made the transformation to raw vegan. For me, your journal gave me the motivation to start my own and gave a face to this forum. I don't know anyone vegan, let alone raw vegan and to read a personal account from someone like yourself, to me, well, it really hit home.
Thank you again.

Day 120 (4 Months)

I'm still alive. :b

Still living on and loving the fruits and veggies. I couldn't imagine not eating just fruits and veggies and seeds. It's not something I think about or talk about anymore. For me it's natural. To talk about it would be like talking about doing the laundry. It's not interesting anymore, but, I still love it.

My instinctive eating has been more precise. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it but I don't plan meals, I just eat what I want at that time. There are NO rules to when, how much or how often I eat. I simply go with the flow of my body. I've been noticing that my body has become more focused on what it wants which seems kinda cool.

For example. I wouldn't think, "I'd like to eat an apple." It would be more precise, such as, "I'd like a Golden Delicious Apple." Now my body knows the difference between many apples and I find it interesting that I desire a variety of apples during different times of the day, sometimes even having a craving for two different kinds at the same time.

This goes for dark green leafies as well; spinach, collards, dandelion, kale, swiss chard,.. I trust that my body knows what it wants, and from the last wide profile blood test I'm doing amazing, with all values normal or excellent.

I ordered two things that I'm really excited about:

One is a bottle that holds water or smoothie. smiling smiley It's quick and easy to use, carry around, wash, and looks really cool. Yes, I'm advocating it because it's an environmental bottle and I like to think that small things have a great impact over time. A girl showed it to me and I HAD to have it. You know how you get that feeling sometimes. smiling smiley Plastic bottles can take hundreds of years to decompose, and slowly draw money from you, while this will last me years and will keep my water fresh and tasty:

Okay, enough with my hippy environmental stuff, lol. :b

Item two is a knife. Many chefs will tell you that you only require ONE knife in your kitchen, so long as it's a good knife. I've done hours and hours of research on this. I've read hundreds of reviews and been to several sites that draw comparisons and I'd decided on this knife:

It's made specifically to chop, slice, dice, and mince fruits and vegetables.. Anyways, thought I'd mention it. I get really excited over the smallest things, lol.

Another thing that has really helped me is Cardio exercise. I've been exercising on the stationary bike for 30 minutes every other day and I feel so relaxed. Even more relaxed then before. Kinda like a melting feeling. I also feel motivated and since exercising I actually cleaned the ENTIRE house - Woohoo! Not only that, but I also read a book about how to organise my house, and life, so that it's extremely easy to maintain, and it's been working great! I know this is just a thought, but having a clean house makes me feel more 'together' mentally. I have so few possessions and I'm planning on getting rid of more. Almost everything donated to the Salvation Army for people who could actually USE it!

I'll be checking around now and then. Like I said, I'm just living life and enjoying it, so I'm not going to be journaling to often. Maybe once every few weeks or a month.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to ask questions!

Rawinsd,

My advice is to slowly 'add' raw foods to what you're presently eating. Don't take anything away. Then see how your body naturally responds. Many people find themselves replacing raw food with not so healthy foods without thinking about it.

Dumpy Princess,

The main reason I made this diary was to show the difference between veganism and raw veganism, and for me there was a big change. I'm flattered that you've read the entire thing, Wow!

As for knowing vegans, I rarely even see vegetarians, and talk to none these days personally.
