I know someone who got a pup from a friend, and began feeding her only cheap, raw chicken bones. He's very cheap with his own food and doesn't value good nutrition, so it was strictly a budget choice, tho' he was also used to feeding dogs raw meat from his years working on sheep farms in Aus and NZ.

He had the dog a few years, and kept her outside except on the coldest days of the year when he knew she would die from exposure. (Not exactly a warm-hearted guy).

A few years ago he moved from his house and had to give her up. He gave her to his ex-wife so his son could continue to see the dog. The ex-wife refused to give the dog anything raw, despite the perfect health the dog had.
Within a couple of months of switching to commercial dog food, the dog became lethargic. Less than 2 years later she developed a debilitating disease and died.
They were all so amazed, even the guy who fed her raw bones, but they believed that 'these things just happen'.
