Salomonella

Date: January 17, 2007 06:36AM So, I'm picking up my poor pug tomorrow from the animal hospital after having had surgery to remove a giant stone from her bladder.
I had been giving her home made raw food for awhile, but stopped after the vet told me salomonella could make her sick. I'm thinking raw would still be better. But how do I avoid food-borne illnesses in packaged raw meat? Thanks! Re: Salomonella

Date: January 18, 2007 09:18PM I've never had a problem though I carefully rinse the (naturally raised) chicken necks and backs but it's mostly to protect me from the salmonella. I even add some food grade hydrochloric acid drops to the rinse water to kill germs.
Dogs have a shorter digestive tract and don't have a problem with germs the way humans do apparently and when I look at some of the stuff my dogs have gulped in the park or on the street I just about get a heart attack. Raw food certainly never makes them sick. [www.rawlearning.com] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
