The Thrive Diet/Brendan Brazier

Has anyone tried this diet? We have the book, and have made the smoothies and the energy bars; but I thought the recipe for sweet potato pancakes was insane -- it absolutely does not make pancakes. Mush, that sticks to the pan and burns.

[books.google.com]

I read some of it online. It seems to be very grounded and comprehensive and into nutritious foods. I didn't get into the recipe section though.

I couldn't even tell you if my stove or oven are working. I've never used them in this house.

Why cook? Why not just eat fruit for breakfast? Or if you want something heavier, nuts, nut butter, seeds.

Yeah Brendans not raw vegan,he's cooked vegan, he just eats raw foods now and again....I know guys that know him very well.

For some some reason the raw community wants to believe he's a raw vegan so bad.

I am glad you responded. I was thinking of you and thinking maybe you should send him your pictures with a note that says, "Man, you don't need to cook!" smiling smiley

Another one of his pancake recipes has a quarter cup of oil. I've cut out bottled oils to a huge degree and rarely eat that stuff any more. I figure there's enough oil in avocados and coconuts. I feel so much better without processed oils. Whenever I see recipes that call for all that oil... yuck.

The other day, Marian Nestle was on NPR talking about how complicated healthy eating is for people. Oh man, it's just not complicated. I have a couple of pounds of organic green grapes in my fridge that are just waiting for me! But, yeah, I do have to decide... that or the watermelon first?

I think some people mean well but it's just not that complicated.

My latest fantasy: Kidnap my junk food eating, fat, dying (of congestive heart failure) colleague and spirit her away to a remote hideout where she has only raw, vegan, simple foods to eat. And a very long walk out when she is ready.

She once said, "We can't have salad in the house because my husband doesn't like it." It's not like a severe peanut allergy. And he's had a quadruple by-pass and stents put in. What the *** does he know?

Richard, you on board for the kidnapping? JUST KIDDING!!! (These days you gotta add that or the feds might come knocking.)

I love this food!

Hi,

Richard you are right. If you read his book your better of eating cooked with all the fat he has in the recipes.

On the positive note at least he is opening up some minds.

^ It's like Matt Amden's Rawvolution. Beautiful book but too much oil, shoyu and agave.

Yeah, think about it...he makes those energy bars too....he's not in the business off helping folks go raw, that would be bad for his income!

I learnt years ago that you can't trust anybody that sells food.

Like I always say, there's a big difference beyween what some people preach and what they do!

As a triathelete, it looks like something he is doing is working for him....

Richard,

I tried one of those bars awhile ago and they where awful tasting what posessed me to try is a mystery.

I could of spent the money on some fresh fruit instead.

I use to work at a health store many moons ago running the organic produce department which I helped set up and I was let go because I believe I was telling to many people to buy fresh produce instead of pills and potions.

This was not good for the high mark up items.

It was kind of funny.

Well I was sleeping well that's for sure.

I love the book, am about half way through. He talks very intelligently about stress through nutrition.

Yep...when your in the business of manufacturing tastes so people continue to buy your product then somethings ups in my opinion.

For some reason raw vegans want to claim him as a raw vegan but he himself doesn't claim to be raw so I don't know what the deal is there.

In his book Thrive diet he pretty well lays out a raw mombo combo plan.

The funny thing for me is who has the time to prepare all that food?

Well it's actually a good book for vegans and he doesn't claim to be raw so I don't think it makes any difference how long it takes to make his recipes because he's looking at it from a vegan approach.
