Cactus spine puncture wound

Anyone have any experience with this?
A friend of mine sustained an injury to his finger. The finger is very painful, swollen & inflamed & getting worse. He's not even sure he's removed all the spines from the finger. (He's raw vegan.)

Oh yes. The various spines are very insidious....and can get infected easily. Keep the wound washed with peroxide......but it will continue to be irritated and infected unless you can get the barbs out. You should be able to see them. Use a needle to remove the light (non-painful or bleeding) outer portions of skin along the wound. Dig out....around and under the barbs that can be easily lifted out. Use an angled tweezer and bright light to get at some of the others.

-Your friend should be able to feel....by running his fingers lightly over the area....in several directions....whether there is still a barb in there irritating the sensitive inner tissues....and continue the extraction process.

-The best bet is always to avoid getting those things in the first place by wearing heavy gloves, and digging/messing with the lowest root system of the cactus and extracting a plant from there with a small shovel. Dig AROUND the plant. Heh...heh. Little @%$#^! smiling smiley

i feel bad cuz once i took two of my friends for hiking
then we tried to get at a cactus pear

we used a rock and other crude items
and... well, they ended up eating it after doing their best to 'clean it up" and get to the flesh

then they ended up getting a bunch of barbs in their mouths

i felt so bad for them

but then they laughed it off

and the rest of the hike went well

i forgot all about it til now

it seemed like just yesterday

I was cutting some Dwarf Palms and sustained the
same type of injury to my left hand, just a couple of days ago.
It was deep and painful. I used a couple of applications of
Tea Tree Oil, and got relief within an hour.....WY
