acid ash alkaline ash

I was reading Shelton today. He was telling how the body needs to be 80-20 alkaline ash, acid ash. Chapter 33 of The Science and Fine Art of Food and Nutrition. How does the body get 20% acid if all of your foods are alkaline ash? That seems to be the case if we're on a raw diet and eating avacados and no nuts.

Good question.

Remember that the body itself maintains a proper Ph; that it will in fact go to great lengths to maintain it. This is the problem with an overly acidic diet = SAD diet. The body has to leach trace minerals (alkaline minerals) where they are otherwise needed just to get the bodies Ph balanced (because it must be balanced or we sicken and die)...But my point is that its not really our "job" to maintain Ph...our bodies have that covered...so long as we are not abusing ourselves and throwing more acids into our bodies than it can handle.

On a raw diet, nuts and seeds and fresh fruits should provide adequate acid so that the body doesn't become too alkaline. Besides, stress, the good or bad kind, will promote acid in the body, so a too alkaline condition is pretty rare. Strenous exercise, for example, could be considered a good stress.
