Patty, I love lychees. Rambutan are fabulous, too. I love most of the exotic fruits but they're so darn pricey. It's too bad they don't grow here.

Rambutans are similar to lychees in taste....in appearance, they resemble something you might expect to find on mars. Strange hairlike threads growing out of a reddish shell.
You can grow lychees in Florida. Also in certain parts of California....I recently had some locally grown ones here on the south coast.

We get a lot of these kinds of fruits where I live (in Hong Kong). They are delicous, especially when in their peak season when they are freshest and properly ripened. Some of them should not be eaten in too large quantities, though. Like most/all foods, they can have effects on the body, and too much of any one of them (like lychees) can create imbalances. Enjoy them, but in moderation, rotating between different fruits rather than eating too many of any one kind on any one day.

Arkay, do you know anything about how they are grown?

I wonder if they're subjected to all the chemicals most fruit is. Do people in Hong Kong question the quality of their food?

le sigh, i miss china town.

i fed some prickly pear to little today, that did NOT go over well. guess his 6 year old mouth isn't coordinated enough to get the flesh and leave the seeds behind. i liked it though, reminded me of california...

So Patty, do you think it could be from pesticides or some chemical it was treated with?

People say imported Thai coconuts are treated with formeldhyde. Sometimes I didn't feel too well from eating them but don't know why.......I haven't had one in months now.

More than one coconut grew mold on the outside.

I bought them from Capers, which has been certified by QAI for handling food. Though they were labeled conventionally-grown, it's possible they weren't chemically treated for shipping.

HI, everyone, I bought some organic lychees this summer, The price is up to US12
(HK 60 ) per KG.
I agreed all lychees found in general market were chemically treated in Hong Kong.

Sounds like they're all treated before shipping, Patty.

I think a lot of my food allergies were from the preparation, not from the food itself.

I was thinking that's why your husband had a reaction,
