Hi,

I've started reading the Raw Food Detox Diet book and was wondering if anyone could explain to me the importance of separating the food categories?? Does it really make that much of a difference? Also, in the book she says that peanuts are "junk food." Does anyone know why that is??? I thought raw nuts were sopossed to be healthy. Thanks, Shayna

Peanuts are not nuts, they are legumes. That may be why she considers them junk food.

Food combining can make a big difference for some people. I believe part of it is because fruit digests faster and can start fermenting if it gets trapped by slower digesting foods.

Raw peanuts are somewhat indigestible ( and contain noxious chemicals) ,
once cooked ( to change the chemicals) the oils are hydrogenated, which is bad.

Separating foods may refer to food combining,
this is simple, once you get the hang of it,
but tricky to explain briefly.
And easier seen with a chart.

A little web searching will clarify
both subjects.

Also raw peanuts often contain a fungus that produces aflatoxin, a carcinogen. Its probably trace amounts of this poison that cause peanut allergies in so many people.

(my name is shaina too!)

I think you'll get more sensitive to certain combinations the longer you're raw. At first, I ate so much onion and garlic, and now the strength is too much.
also, I ate tomatoes constantly and with everything. Now I can really only eat them by themselves--same with grapes.
Melons are tough for me--but I can't resist! Someone told me it had to do with metabolizing the sugars in seedless varieties.
anyway, good luck.
and it's been totally fascinating to really feel and understand my body's needs.
