Anyone have a RAW recipe for Kombucha?

I'm sick of reading recipes that have white sugar in it. Can't I at least use raw sugar? There's got to be a modified recipe somewhere that still makes it "Raw" and "healthy"

These stupid Synergy drinks cost too much and half the time there's a bad batch or bad shipping and they're flat.

Some people I know have used agave, but it doesn't work as well, the cultures tend to die.

Don't worry about the sugar. You won't be consuming the sugar, the SCOBY does. The SCOBY, like a plant that consumes substances that would be poisonous to you and transforms them into what is beneficial to you. Nature has it all figured out.

i used to make it with raw sugar.

man, my kombuchas were monsters- i had a very happy compost pile.

i'd use white sugar if i started making it now, cheaper, and that mushroom thing will eat whatever you give it.

so, you can use raw sugar, you just have to monitor it a bit more closely- not to overage or get vinegar.

peace-

Thanks MamaCass but anymore specifics? Recipe you follow?

I've never made it before so the last sentence is way over my head. lol

I don't get why it's just about feeding the scoby. I mean if you fed it a raw sugar which would have more nutrients/whatever in it, wouldn't it "transform" more nutrients or whatever into the kombucha ?
