Date: November 08, 2007 02:19AM This is my 4th day 100% raw and I am feeling good.
However, I am wondering about Kale and Asparagus -- these two very healthy vegetables seem kind of inedible if you don't cook them, at least a little bit. advice? Re: Kale and Asparagus

Date: November 08, 2007 02:24AM knead the kale (with your hands!) with:
lemon juice garlic sea salt olive/sesame oil add in onion, peppers, mushrooms, or anything you like it's incredibly soothing I find. measure twice, cut once. Date: November 08, 2007 02:43AM they are totally edible raw, people here eat so much kale it's just ridiculous! i find it lovely chopped fine in salad. and asparagus is a tender veggie, no cooking required. of course you can "cook" vegetable by marinating them in oil and lemon with spices if you like. it softens them and makes them flavourful.
and, of course, you can always juice veggies that you don't feel like chewing. Re: Kale and Asparagus

Date: November 08, 2007 06:59PM you know, i have some asparagus that i have to eat up in the fridge right now, i think i'll throw it into a salad along with some kale.
tzefira that salad sounds pretty good (except for the honey part, that isn't vegan). it made me think about making tabouli with kale along with or instead of the parsley. that would be so good! Re: Kale and Asparagus

Date: November 08, 2007 09:06PM I do the same as Shaina said. I just massage the kale with a little lime juice and macadamia nut oil... so delicious and really fun to squeeze the leaves in your hands. Re: Kale and Asparagus

Date: November 08, 2007 09:58PM BLEND IT IN THE BLENDER AS A GREEN SMOOTHIE--toss in a frozen banana, frozen cranberries and/or blueberries and it masques the taste of the greens.
I learned this from Victoria Boutenka (rawfamily.com) and I heard Tonya Zavasta speak (beautifulonraw.com). Enjoy! Z Re: Kale and Asparagus

Date: November 09, 2007 04:50AM My room mate and I have an asparagus patch and love the really tender new shoots. I just added Kale back into my diet am enjoying it so far in savory veggie smoothies and sliced finely in a salad. Oils are processed concentrated fats and may not be truly raw so I don't use them anymore, nor salt, except for a few occasions when I'm eating out in raw restaurants or buy olives that have been cured in a salt brine. You can buy raw Botilla olives that are sun dried with no salt.
However, since you're still transitioning go for it and enjoy these two veggies. Re: Kale and Asparagus
