Tummy doesn't like sprouts
Posted by: Itzdavey ()

I just had some sprouted stuff- lentil, pea, and something else mixed in. I liked them but I do not thing I am digesting them very well. Is this something one can get used to or is it possible I just can't handle them?

Maybe introduce them very slowly if you arent used to eating them.?
Too many bean sprouts can upset my tummy too.

I don't think anybody digests them well. Maybe if you dehydrated them, it would be easier, but they are really best cooked, even very lightly steamed.

I stick to non-beany sprouts and use them only in small quantities.

Mine doesn't either. I just stay away from them. I'm pretty sure this is a common problem. sad smiley

Odd. I was under the impression that this was a staple of raw eating and I was late in the game. smiling smiley

oh well maybe just a few of them mixed in with something else would be better I was just eating them by the handful crunching away on them while watching a movie.

I can handle 1-2 cups of sprouted beans with no trouble. If I eat more than that... then there's trouble. tongue sticking out smiley

You could try smaller quantities, mixing them into salads or something. Or your body just might not like them! In the end, starches are less than optimal. I'm sure if I ate enough raw corn, I'd get a belly ache. But I was a channa masala/hummus addict before going raw, so these are priceless transitioning tools for me.

There are plenty of other sprouts to try--my two newest loves are sunflower shoots (so there's green leaves, not the early germinated seed) and pea shoots!

the only sprouted beans i eat are lentils, all the others are hard for me to digest. green leafy sprouts are terrific and just as easy to handle as lettuce, alfalfa, clover etc. and baby greens like soil grown buckwheat and sunflower sprouts are amazing.

I just bought some lentils so I was going to try those on my own. I don't seem to be able to find things like alfalfa anywhere (that aren't already sprouted).

Yup. The whole popcorn with a movie thing is kind of burned into my system (and perhaps the american psyche). It's a nice substitute for the conditioned habitual necessity for munching.

Did I just say "conditioned habitual necessity?"

Anyway you know what I mean I think. I will take my pretentious vocabulary and be on my way.

You will like lentils....They are large, easy to sprout, and have a nutty taste that is good on their own.Make sure you get raw ones! The common ones in the supermarket wont sprout.

Hmm. I did ge the goya ones from the supermarket and they are sprouting. So I guess they are raw. I used to do chic peas years ago and that's how I bought them.
