If you feel you need more protein, you can get it from nuts and seeds. However, all raw foods have protein in them, and if you eat enough raw foods to meet your energy needs, you will also be meeting your protein needs.

I've read in Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko that green leafy vegetables contain plenty of protein. Maybe you could eat a lot of them if you don't like nuts.

Proteins are assembled from amino acids, which are also present in plants, not just animal flesh. Your body does not need to ingest an already assembled protein to get what it needs. It needs to have the available components present to assemble as it sees fit. That is why you have large strong animals that eat exclusively a plant-based diet with no flesh and yet they are among the strongest animals on the planet.

Wishing you vibrant health

I have learned that raw foods have enzymes in them, and that the enzymes ARE protein, and in the best form we can hope to get.
If anyone has learned different, please chime in...

Enzymes are proteins, but not the amino acids that we need. "Protein" is a broad term. There are essential amino acids that the body can't produce by itself, and must be taken in through foods. Just eat a variety of foods and you'll be good. If you're curious, look up specific amino acid requirements, and then search for the amino acids that your favorite foods contain.

Try Greens, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Asparagus and those type of veggies if none of the answers so far satisfy you. Eat enough of it then :O)

[ Enzymes are proteins]

Yes.

[ but not the amino acids that we need]

Not exactly.

They *contain* (or consist of) a number of amino acids, some of which are essential and some of which are not. Some papers say that the nonessential aminos in plant proteins have protective functions in the body. So although they are not used for protein synthesis in the body they are still good to eat.

A protein is just a very large connection of amino acids hooked together, often forming a glob but sometimes a chain. A protein can have hundreds or thousands of aminos hooked together. Sometimes they are represented by ribbons.

like this:

The attractive and repulsive forces between different parts of each amino are responsible for the protein's shape, or the way it is folded.

Being able to predict how a protein will fold is a ghastly difficult problem in biology. But it is very easy to unfold one, by heat, or by pressure, or by applying strong acids or bases. That is what we call denaturing and something we as raw foodists tend to avoid. It's easy to denature a protein, but very few proteins can be renatured after being denatured. Like cooked egg white: can't undo it!
