Why do chia seeds have to be taken with fluids?

Date: June 26, 2008 02:58PM My guess would be that it's because they are a hydrophilic seed. They love moisture and gel it up. I think if they weren't soaked a little they would probably absorb water from you and be dehydrating.
I love them and throw them in my smoothies. Sometimes I put about 1/3 of a cup in a mason jar with 3 cups if distilled H2O and let them gel in the fridge. I eat the out of the jar or use the that way in smoothies. The soaking is supposed to make the nutrients more available. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
