True hunger...

If the gnawing and growling in the stomach is not true hunger,
when do we eat?
Ive always ate whatever I want whenever I want and ESPECIALLY if my
stomach is growling!
But since I have been fasting and experimenting with fasting, reading alot
about fasting and true hunger, true hunger has nothing to do with the stomach.
True hunger is felt in the mouth and throat.
Ive never experienced true hunger and not sure too many people have.
Yesterday I went all day without eating, just drank water.
A few times during the day I got the growling in the stomach so I
just told myself thats not hunger, because it isnt.
So then I got to thinking.. ok, if this isnt hunger, then how do we
know when to eat and how much?
The standard male diet is 2000 calories a day, dont know what it is for women but seriously,if the growling in the stomach isnt hunger, then how do we know when to eat and how much?
Think about it!
This is DEEP!
LOL!
Makes you wonder....
If we knew what true hunger was and only ate when we felt it, and only ate enough to satisfy that true hunger....
I bet we wouldnt eat much on a daily basis!
Ive never fasted long enough to experience true hunger so I dont know what its like and how it feels.
Has anyone here felt it?
And if so now that you know how it feels and what its like do you wait for the signal and eat accordingly?
smiling smiley
I seriously dont feel we need all that much food!
I know the LESS I eat the better I feel!
I will be the first to admit here waiving the white flag...I OVEREAT!
I do overeat!
But seriously if hunger is not felt in the stomach and true hunger is felt in the mouth and throat and we truly knew the signal something tells me if we knew this
feeling and signal we wouldnt need much food because I know I can go most all day without food and feel great!
Any thoughts?
Sorry this was so long!
Rob

I remember being truly hungry a couple of times in my life: when I was twelve and we didn't have food for dinner and we were told to have seconds for lunch because there was no food in the house, but I was too embarrassed to do that, so I went hungry; and the other time when I split from my ex husband and worked but didn't have enough money to feed myself -- just my son, and I went from a size 14 to a 6 in ten months. It wasn't that twingey growly thing in the stomach. It carried a deep sadness in the soul, if that makes any sense.

I usually eat for pleasure.

There are so many fruits that look so beautiful and are so delicious, such little gifts, that surely they aren't that way JUST to 'satisfy hunger' (which as you say, in the Western world at least, we are lucky enough to have experienced rarely, if at all).

I find that hunger happens to me in stages. First it starts as a very weak body signal that indicates my body is ready and willing to accept food. This first signal is very faint with no discomfort present and passes very quickly. From there the hunger signals get stronger and last longer and get increasingly more uncomfortable until after about 3 days of water only the hunger (appetite) disappears because the body switches internally to ketosis. I use the slight hunger signal daily in my raw journey to help improve digestion. I have found that if I let the hunger signals get too strong and uncomfortable I can find myself binging.

When it all hits the fan and you take aay all the various man made elements, I don't believe true hunger exists!

Ha,ha nobody can speak for you buddy, only you can say how you feel....some folks are simply not that strong and tend to project their own fears and insecurities on the stronger ones.

Like I always say...they are not you and you are not them!

Be good

i think i only felt truly hungry once in my life
and that was after day 14 of fasting

previous to that, i doubt i ever felt "true" hunger

and even after day 14, i doubt that was really true hunger either

but the food sure tasted goooooood afterwards

Ok so it appears we dont know true hunger and if so when do we eat?
This is a very good question.
I think we need to replace the nutrients we lost from physical activity.
Which we should ALL be doing every day some form of physical activity.
Then perhaps at the end of the day we feed to replace, but not overeat and before dark?
