Where to find exotic fruit in and around NYC?

I already shop at the asian markets in Queens- I find mangos, papaya, coconut, perssimons, durian, starfruit, and longans. but I'm hoping to find other exotic fruit like latin and carribean.

I found cherimoya and frozen mamey sapote(tastes like sweet potato) in Corona. I'm hoping to find black and white sapotes and other yummies I haven't tried yet. I heard that black sapote tastes like chocolate and there's also a peanut butter fruit! If I ever find these two fruits I will make my own "raw reeses peanut butter cup". I don't allow myself to eat chocolate/cacao/carob or nuts. sad smiley

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just FYI, black sapote has the texture of chocolate pudding but not the taste. When most mature, it is mildly sweet.

Good to know! Can you describe the flavor?

To be honest, it isn't an overly flavorful fruit. The taste is extremely mild and subtle, and not very sweet.

Someone who doesn't have sensitive tastebuds would probably think that it has no taste whatsoever.

But I love 'em!

Also, the texture can be anywhere from somewhat dry to very moist, and I much prefer the latter.

Let me know if you find one. I'll keep my eyes peeled. I haven't seen one in my local markets, but then again, last spring/summer I wasn't looking for them.
I'm assuming you're in the city right? I was cruising the chinatown markets last week, but din't really find anything I couldn't find in my neighborhood. I found a jackfruit, but they were selling them in halves only. For $33 bucks! I can't really afford that right now. sad smiley
