Bladderwrack and sea-lettuce are easy to identify but they are not often easily accessible. A recent storm washed up some. Can you eat mystery seaweeds? Re: Seaweed harvesting tips, mystery species?

All seaweed is edible. That's what I keep reading. This on species of the Pacific northwest.. Edible Seaweed of the Pacific Northwest "All seaweed is edible, though some are more nutritional and palatable than others, and some can cause stomach upset." Date: June 26, 2009 12:31PM ..for instance there's this local seaweed that can be found year-round on the beaches or floating in the surf.. never knew what it was.... it's of the species, 'codium' and can be found worldwide and sells for $5/lb in Hawaii but is more likely to be considered beach litter where I live. 'Dead man's fingers' seems to be the common name.

THE MERMAID'S TRESSES: The Secret Lives of Seaweeds By Giles Watson CODIUM Velveted and branched as antlers, Swaying slightly with the tide-flow, I reach for them, bare To the elbow. And the touch of them is algal, Like sodden felt, gloves Covering blunt fingers. I pluck at them where Their ends probe. Nip off the tip, and the scar heals. Last digit of a mangled thumb, Lost long ago. [www.flickr.com] Re: Seaweed harvesting tips, mystery species?
