Thanks, Jon Re: Coffee

Date: July 17, 2009 04:06AM Hi Jon,
Is it more about the "waking up in the morning," part or the taste? I was able to quit coffee when I started dragging my sorry butt outta bed an hour earlier and hitting the gym/jogging/exercise DVDs before work. If it's the taste...hard to say. I used to have coffee as a dessert, now I usually have a little taste of raw chocolate puddings or truffles. Re: Coffee

Date: July 17, 2009 04:15AM Coffee is not so horrible, it's from the earth and is calorie free.
If you're 100% raw with coffee/tea, then that's not so bad at all, and may even have benefits to it. I'd actually be slightly more concerned about the warmth of it than the coffee itself. Re: Coffee

Date: July 17, 2009 12:05PM I was a coffee addict drink up to 12 cups of it a day and I did this for 15 years.Today is a week without it. When I want that feeling of a cup of coffee in the morning I will have one cup of this it does contain extracts of roasted barley and roasted rye. The last few days I have been going for a cup of herbal tea instead .[www.organichealthforlife.com] Re: Coffee

Date: July 17, 2009 05:32PM My #1 favorite sub for coffee is the Dandy-Blend. You can find it at most health food stores and grocery stores that carry a natural food section. I absolutely love the stuff! Haven't been drinking it since going raw, but definitely drank plenty of it when going off coffee.

Date: July 17, 2009 08:44PM I'm on day 3 of this new lifestyle and coffee has been the only hard part about it. I'm about 85% raw and I have been drinking one cup of black coffee with no sugar in the morning. I'm hoping to bring it down to a half a cup in a few days and just come off slowly. The headaches are horrible without the coffee so I'm hoping it's not so bad doing it slow. Re: Coffee

Date: July 17, 2009 09:32PM Is everybody, including the OP, talking about coming down off caffeinated coffee? Or is decaf as big a problem? There really is no substitute, imo, except to replace it with a beverage or activity that is equally scintillating, but more beneficial.
Taking a cue from SuperInfinity, I still drink coffee occasionally--black, organic, fair-trade decaf. Re: Coffee

Date: July 18, 2009 01:55AM I know some people who drink roasted soy beans instead.
I searched Google with these words "roasted soy as a substitute for coffee" and came up with some 25,000 hits. Here are a few links. [www.amazon.com] [www.soycoffee.com] This one says how to make it. [www.freepatentsonline.com] I don't believe that soy is really a healthful food. That's because of some things I've read. But, I suppose if it's a temporary way to get off coffee, then my feeling is it's probably better. This way is not compatible with Zen practice.
