New to raw food, a little scared. Help?

I was at the bookstore when I accidentally came accross a recipe book for raw living. Intrigued, I bought it. Now I really want to start intigrating it into my life, but I have so many questions! Is some type of colon cleanse or detox a must? Should I immediately start eating all raw food, all the time, or take it slow? Are there a lot of risks in going raw? I'd buy an informational book on it but I'd rather hear what people living normal lives on this diet have to say first. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I like to keep raw easy, fun and simple. Go at your own pace and do raw the way that feels right to you.

The best colon cleanse happens when you eat whole raw foods because they have natural roughage fiber in them.

I didn't find any risks when I went raw except for some temporary discomfort when the body was busy detoxing stuff it didn't want in the body but that wasn't very bad in my experience.

Just relax and take it one bite at a time. Its amazing how much better the body can do with the right fuel. Good luck and happy trails.

Thank you, everyone, for your input! The book was "Raw Food, Real World" by Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis. It has some really interesting recipes, albeit a little on the fancy side.

Don't do any 'colon cleanses' - just slowly add more raw food to your diet. I think slowly is best. Don't jump onto band wagons just be sensible and considered in your choices. I don't think you need any supplements, cleanses or any of that stuff - just shift your eating, in your own time to lovely fresh fruit and vegetables. Don't worry about complicated 'raw' recipes - i never use them - they are raw junk food mainly.

Just my opinion of course.

have fun experimenting

I wouldn't say there are risks, but there are difficulties. Your body will want to detoxify, which is a good thing, but this could mean some down time being sick. And there are social implications. But coming to this forum is a good first step for getting support on your raw journey.

But what about vitamin B12? At least I know vegans need to take supplements sometimes to get it.
