bad coconut?

Coconut question here...I have been buying the white young coconuts and enjoying them very much. This week, however, I bought one of the brown coconuts. When I opened it, I noticed there was a slightly fermented smell. I tried a teeny-tiny bite and it didn't taste like coconut at all. I guess I had never thought about a coconut being over-ripe, but I'm assuming this was the case. Anyone ever had this happen? How can you tell a coconut's ripeness?

Brown coconuts are already dead. This is why they're brown.

Peace,

Marcos

Wow...sorry if that was a stupid question but I didn't know that! So the "normal" coconuts with the hard brown shell are no good...thanks for the info--I'll stick to the white ones. I've only recently started seeing them where I live--

BTW--thanks to those of you who post and answer (I'm sure) many questions over and over. This has been a great resourse for me to begin my raw journey. Two weeks in! yawning smiley)

soveryblessed,

There is no such thing as a stupid question. The only stupid question, in my opinion, is the one you never bother to ask.

Peace,

Marcos
