We are a small rural desert ranch & organic farm with a natural hot water source, located on a hillside in the Salton Sea area of the California desert, 2 and a half hours east of Los Angeles, and 1 hour and 15 minutes southeast of Palm Springs.
Quite remote and secluded in a beautiful oasis-like desert setting, this is the third incarnation of a family farm that began in Oregon in the 1920's, and we have a lot of experience in organic orcharding. Our main crop here is dates and we have 5 varieties: medjool, barhi, zahidi, khadrawi and halawi....and we also have some young plantings of fig, mango, sweet pomegranite, carob, mulberry, olive and sweet lime. Right now we need a hand on the farm for about 1 hour each evening, with various tasks such as: watering the dates, the fruit trees, some aloe vera and keeping the house clean.
We will provide a private bedroom, bicycle, some of our fresh dates from this summers harvest and access to our hot & cold pools... in exchange for this part time help. You would need to meet any other personal expenses and have your own transportation.
The local desert is awesome for exploring with lots of trails and open valleys, wild canyons and some big mountains about an hour’s drive away. The weather this time of year is hot, with days around 95-105 and nights about 80 to 85, but we have air.
Native artifacts have been discovered on the land, and we have magnificent desert sunsets. Parts of the movie "Into The Wild" were filmed near here where his experiences took place. This is a great place to empty out your head.
This is a a tobacco, drug & alcohol free environment and we would like to connect with an honest, environmentally conscious person who share similar values, for this living situation from mid September through mid October....4 weeks total.
We have internet access, a guest phone and a vegetarian kitchen. Sorry but we are not set up for kids or pets at this time.
