and for all British folk - figs are a steal in Lidl at the moment at 15pence each. I got really weird looks for buying a trayful and grining with joy as i skipped out of the shop Re: blackcurrants and figs

No, blackcurrants are blackcurrants. They're not commonly eaten here, in any form, raw or processed: maybe they're just too obscure for cron-o-meter to recognize? Is there a British or EU version available? I am going to my local Italian import store next week to buy figs; they select them carefully and no one looks at you askance as you walk out with a crateful, unless it's the last crateful, and they wanted some! It's great to shop where people "get it." : ) Re: blackcurrants and figs

I have been putting an oz or so of raw blackcurrants into my banana smoothies - it gives them a lovely tang. I have a bush in the garden - I share them with the blackbirds! Re: blackcurrants and figs

I have a big blackcurrant bush under my kitchen window. All manner of strange birds eat from it in summer--it's awesome bird watching! I remembered just now that a few decades ago, it was discovered that blackcurrants carried a fungus that was deadly to certain landscaping fir trees, and so it is illegal in many parts of the States to keep blackcurrant bushes. Maybe this is why they aren't listed on cron-o-meter? I'd be curious to see whether it interprets "currants" as dried currants . . . Re: blackcurrants and figs
