Safe amount of Alfalfa sprouts
Posted by: Mislu ()

Hi Everyone! It feels great to be back! I started eating some alfalfa sprouts, because they are the best produce in the area. However, I was looking up info about their nutrition, and there is some question of toxicity. Even Gabriel Cousens commented about not eating them in excess, and of course when the sprouts are fully mature, around 7 days.

So...what is a safe amount? What is an excessive amount? I have been eating about 4 oz per day, which is the pack size at trader joes. So far I found their alfalfa sprouts to be the best, although I don't necessarily like all of their produce.

Thank you for taking my question!

I would say that if you feel sick or have digestive problems after eating them, then you've eaten too much.

I used to grow alfalfa sprouts and at first I would eat enormous quantities of them and definitely didn't feel good afterward.

I can't eat any but that's because they cause me to bloat and have a very painful tummy - even a tiny amount. All sprouts do that to me.

I think they are very difficult to digest but others will differ here.

Omega,
I tried brocco sprouts, and those made me feel ill after eating several ounces. But I haven't felt that from eating alfalfa sprouts. How much exactly are enormous quantities of alfalfa sprouts for you? Just curious.

flipperjan,
Oh, too bad. Well, there are plenty of other things to eat. I know that some sprouts are more difficult to digest than others. I personally enjoy alfalfa sprouts and mung bean the most. I find grain sprouts and most other bean sprouts to be unpleasant tasting. Wheatgrass juice almost always makes me feel ill. Some call that a cleansing side effect, I called it quits!
