Do pasteurized almonds/nuts float?

Date: May 14, 2010 06:35PM When soaking nuts and seeds, we are supposed to throw away the ones that float because they are dead, correct? If so, would an easy way to test if a nut is alive to see whether or not it floats in water? Re: Do pasteurized almonds/nuts float?

Date: May 16, 2010 11:19AM In my experience a nut (or berry) might float if it is spoiled or wormy, going off or rancid causing it to expand, or a worm might get in there hollowing it out making it lighter than water.
