Date: June 03, 2010 06:05AM Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo *cries* :/... most of my favorites are on that list, and with no garden to call my own at the moment, and the distinct lack of organic produce in this area, I am not a happy camper...sigh... well I guess that means there will at least be a huge market locally for whatever I grow If my friends uncle ends up letting me cultivate some of his land... I'll make sure to print out fact sheets for people,lol... Re: Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies with pesticides

Date: June 04, 2010 10:19AM I read the other day that California uses twice as much pesticide etc by weight than any other state in America - the most heavily contaminated fruit being grapes and strawberries. Re: Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies with pesticides

A 50/50 solution of white vinegar and warm water, followed by a 15 minute soak and thorough rinse eliminates most chemical residue and pathogens. Wash, wash, wash! Re: Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies with pesticides

We use a homemade water/vinegar/lemon juice solution. For pineapple/strawberries/apples etc. we wash as you suggested. However, we have not been doing a 15 min. soak...maybe we should. But, we use only organic produce, so hopefully any residue on those would be very minimal. Re: Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies with pesticides

I don't fuss that much about the soaking time if the produce is organic. Re: Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies with pesticides

Date: June 07, 2010 10:41AM Ditto on the car sized jug for me!!! I mean I wash thoroughly, but its been just with normal water, and from what ive read, soft fruits and veggies with thin skins, tend to have pesticides not just on but inside of them, so does this method help with that too? Vinegar and water is supposed to work for everything superficial. [sigh]The problem with conventional produce is that many of the seeds are incubated in pesticides, to make the mature plant resistant to their toxic effects. By the time the fruit has ripened, it's not possible to know, short of sending it to a lab, whether those germination chemicals aren't part of the plant's cellular matrix. That's why, if it's the last thing I do, I will destroy Monsanto and their ilk. So help me, er, fill-in-the-blank. Re: Dirty Dozen fruits and veggies with pesticides
