Its curious, but I found a paper which states that cholestrol can be found in plants! I had always heard there isn't any at all in plants, but according to this, that isn't completely true. Unless of course its a joke? what do you think?

All living things have cholesterol as part of their makeup, just as all living things have proteins. The article does reiterate that plant cholesterol is negligible, as humans do not uptake these sterols as easily from plants.

The amazing thing to me is that they exist at all in plants, even if in such small amounts. I had just always been told that there isn't any cholestrol in plants. As in zero, not even a trace. So I just found that fact interesting.

Mislu,

I think what we are all taught is that plants have no or little dietary cholesterol compared to animal products, which is practically true.

No, I was told a long time ago that plants don't contain cholestrol. Not compared to anything. Its very, very low concentration its true. I guess that is why its discounted.

Its not quite the same as the transfat thing, manufactures can say 'zero' if the amount is below a certain level per serving. Its a natural thing, not chemical modified, so not a worry. But it is interesting! Its almost like hearing that plants have nerves or a heart, or eyes or something like that.

Tamukha,
Sorry, that didn't come out quite right. What I am meaning is that cholestrol as part of plant cells was totally unexpected.
