Aquatic plants

I am thinking of growing aquatic plants in an aquarium for personal consumption. Its just for convience, and also it seems like they grow faster than land plants. A number of questions however.

What types are edible, and can be eaten in any quanitity? what about parasites? I did a search and found that there were a few parasites connected to the production of some aquatic plants. so these were recommended to be cooked very well before eating.

What possible why is there to eliminate parasites in your own personal tank? I remember that this company sold a concentrate of a particular aquatic plant, dried into a powder. It vaguely reminded me of something close to what my goldfish ate in her tank. But I never confirmed that it was the same plant. But now I can't find the product, don't remember at all what it was.

Thank you for the help!

Thank you Jodi,
That was really a very extensive list! I don't know where to start! I have seen the water meal on a foods for the future webpage or something like that. I would like to grow that one, except I haven't a clue as how to find it or obtain it. I am sure there must be a supply outlet for all of these things.

I can just imagine at a water meal salad would be awsome right out of the tank!
