Hereditary Fructose Intolerance

Date: October 31, 2011 08:09AM People born with Hereditary Fructose Intolerance (HFI) have a low level of fructose 1-phosphate aldolase activity in aldolase B, an enzyme that breaks down fructose 1-phosphate.
Meaning that a person with this condition can't eat fruit without causing serious consequences to the liver. Approximately 1 per 15,000 - 20,000 people are affected. Obviously, these people can't follow a high-fruit diet and definitely not 80-10-10. Just something to keep in mind when we're tempted to think that one diet is best for everyone.
